The Principal Architect leads and collaborates with clients and project teams throughout all phases of project delivery. This role involves driving creative solutions to meet project goals across multiple projects, maintaining a strategic focus on the bigger picture, enhancing team performance, and fostering strong client relationships.

Reports to: Higher Ed Practice Studio Leader
Responsibilities
- Expand client base through pursuit targets set in collaboration with Practice Studio Leaders.
- Act as an ambassador for JLG in the community and elevate JLG as the firm of choice for client pursuits.
- Accountable for full project deliverables. Candidates may be asked to sign for projects.
- Work with Practice Studio Leader and Project Managers in determining client’s fees and project budgets, schedules, and project results.
- While the PA/PM is the main client contact, remain connected with client as the sponsor.
- Establish team understanding of project goals and establish high performance outcomes.
- Ensure client goals for projects are accomplished and expectations are exceeded throughout the project.
- Monitor contracts, subcontracts, change orders and other agreements to ensure that established procedures are being followed and that each phase is properly closed out.
- Ensure that all applicable certifications are maintained, and policies and procedures are in compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Train and mentor Project Architects, Job Captains and Project Associates through continual project peer review and invest in their growth through delegated project experiences.
- Work with the Marketing department in writing proposals, participating in proposal presentations, and/or making conference presentations.
- Oversees and develops direct reports by creating performance metrics and goals for those individuals.
- Maintain JLG as firm of choice, exceed expectations, and secure a recommendation for JLG.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor or Master of Architecture from an accredited university, current architectural licensure and NCARB record, and a minimum of 10 years professional post-licensure experience
- Minimum of 8 years of successful project management and leadership for projects with a $30M+ construction budget to achieve project goals, budgets, and schedules
Preferred:
- 5 consecutive years of experience in a studio
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with ability to gain client confidence, hold difficult conversations, and display confidence in public speaking and presentations
- Highly self-motivated problem-solver, with proven team leadership to mentor, empower, and grow staff
- Evidence of community stewardship with the ability to create brand awareness and build relationships to win work
- Clear understanding of architectural business and construction processes to budget, plan, and deliver throughout a project
- Expert knowledge of building codes, building science, and constructability

Compensation for this role is determined based on location, experience, and skills, with an annual salary range of $120,000 - $140,000.
