Western National Mutual Insurance Company is seeking to expand its Human Resources team by adding a Human Resources Intern. The Human Resources Intern will provide support to a variety of projects and initiatives, while playing a key role in our day-to-day operations.

Western National Intern Program Summary:

Western National provides a robust internship program designed for individuals aiming to acquire valuable experience in the insurance industry. This program not only offers practical, hands-on opportunities and project work in partnership with our human resources team; but interns will also have the opportunity to enhance their existing skill sets through a range of professional development activities, cultivate relationships with employees and fellow interns, and participate in impactful volunteer initiatives within the community.


Position Summary:

As a Human Resources intern in our Internship Program, you will be a key contributor to our Human Resources team. Possible tasks that you assist with include:

  • Participate in HR projects/work teams supporting organizational initiatives
  • Create and distribute companywide communications
  • Begin to develop a current knowledge of HR Laws and Regulations and raise any compliance concerns, assists with developing and maintaining multi state compliance tools
  • Assist with maintaining a list of active job descriptions; partner with business leaders to ensure description accuracy
  • Create and develop HR specific training guides and templates
  • Provide support throughout the HR team including Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Wellbeing, and other critical areas
  • Perform general clerical tasks for the department
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, and other HR-related matters
  • Other duties as assigned  
Requirements

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Currently working toward a degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field 
  • 3.0 or higher GPA preferred
  • Clear written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organization, time management and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • High degree of discretion/confidentiality
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and be an effective team member
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented and accurate
  • Ability to use good judgment and to be flexible
  • Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment and software packages 
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proven experience working in an office environment preferred

Compensation Overview:

The base pay offered for this position will be $20.00/hour.
