  • Responsible for comprehensive documentation, including mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials (BOMs), engineering change requests, and system manuals.
  • Designs cost-effective and robust semiconductor automated systems, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards such as SEMI, UL, and CE.
  • Conducts DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to identify and mitigate potential risks in mechatronic system designs.
  • Specifies and integrates various sensory technologies (e.g., vision systems, proximity sensors, encoders), power distribution systems, and control system components (e.g., PLCs, motion controllers, servo drives).
  • Collaborates with production and customers to troubleshoot and improve the performance and reliability of existing automation systems.
  • Works closely with suppliers to ensure the quality and manufacturability of designed electromechanical components and systems.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to other team members on projects involving robotics and automation, mechatronic design, and integration.
  • Collaborates with and directs contract engineering firms specializing in relevant areas of mechatronics.
  • Works with external manufacturers and distributors to select suitable OEM electromechanical components and sub-assemblies.
  • Participate in interdepartmental teams during final assembly, testing, and installation phases to ensure products and systems meet engineering design specifications and customer requirements.
  • Develop and qualify new suppliers for specialized electromechanical parts and manufacturing processes.
  • Adheres to all applicable Safety & Health, Quality, and Environmental processes of the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but is expected to lead major product introductions and provide technical direction to other team members on projects. Requires ongoing cross-functional and intra-company team coordination.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering with a strong mechanical aptitude, or Mechanical Engineering with experience in electrical and control systems.
  • 7-10 years of experience in designing and integrating electromechanical systems.
  • Mandatory 5+ years of related automation design experience, preferably within the semiconductor industry.
  • 5+ years of experience using CAD software for mechanical design (Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks preferred) and familiarity with electrical schematic tools.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong creative and analytical problem-solving skills with a focus on integrated electromechanical systems.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated individuals capable of adhering to project timelines and communicating progress effectively.
  • Expertise in individual component design, GD&T, and manufacturing processes, with a strong understanding of how these relate to electrical and control system integration.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis, general troubleshooting of complex electromechanical systems, and the ability to perform comprehensive system-level testing.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, mechanical assembly skills, and a solid understanding of electrical wiring and interconnection principles.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of integrated systems, including electronics, mechanical assemblies, sensors, actuators, and control systems.
  • Working knowledge of blueprints, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, manufacturing documentation systems, and other related materials.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical information effectively within the organization and directly with customers.
  • Ability to apply statistical methods to analyze system performance, troubleshoot issues, and identify trends.
  • Proficiency in operating a Windows-based computer workstation with MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, etc.).

WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The normal work environment includes both a typical business office and a manufacturing operation. The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, touch, see, and hear, and may be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds. While performing duties in the manufacturing area, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, the risk of electrical shock, and potential exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions in the manufacturing environment.
