The Role:


The Ippolito Lab is looking for a dynamic Laboratory Manager to manage and coordinate various research, technical, and administrative functions of our human immunology group. 


Your work environment will be the Disease Intervention & Prevention unit at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute. Texas Biomedical Research Institute is the only private, non-profit infectious disease research facility, providing high containment research capabilities (BSL3 & BSL4) alongside a National Primate Research Center.


Primary Role:

  • Help the PI to manage, supervise, and lead the day-to-day activities of the lab and contribute to our collaborative study of human immunology and antibody repertoires.
  • Coordinate the ordering of supplies for all persons assigned to the laboratory.
  • Ensure that routine reports such as biweekly timesheets, safety briefing records and progress reports are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Perform basic research studies in area of technical specialty as required by the research programs.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and lead lab members influencing them to take positive action and be accountable for assigned responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs concerning expenditures and related budget details for ongoing programs and proposals for new work.

Our Ideal Candidate:


EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science degree in biology or related field from an accredited college/university required. 

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of job-specific experience required. Must have experience as Senior Research Assistant, Research Associate, Senior Research Associate, or Core Manager as prerequisite to this role. 


SKILLS: 

  • Previous experience and competency are required in the performance of general lab management, experimental design, budget generation, project purchasing and scheduling, inventory management, data management, maintenance of advanced laboratory equipment, and staff training and oversight.
  • Familiarity with a variety of basic experimental techniques (DNA cloning, RT-PCR, cell culture, and protein purification) is required. 
  • Previous experience and competency with Next-Generation Sequencing platforms (Illumina, ONT MinION, PacBio), data analysis, scripting languages, and high-performance computing resources is preferred.
  • Track record of scientific publications is preferred.
  • Candidate should be highly motivated, eager to solve scientific problems, willing to learn new skills, and have excellent communication and organization skills.
