Western National Mutual Insurance Company is seeking to expand its Actuarial team by adding an Actuarial Intern. The Actuarial Intern will provide support to a variety of projects and initiatives, while playing a key role in our day-to-day operations.

Western National Intern Program Summary:

Western National provides a robust internship program designed for individuals aiming to acquire valuable experience in the insurance industry. This program not only offers practical, hands-on opportunities and project work in partnership with our premium billing team; but interns will also have the opportunity to enhance their existing skill sets through a range of professional development activities, cultivate relationships with employees and fellow interns, and participate in impactful volunteer initiatives within the community.


Position Summary:

As an Actuarial Intern in our internship program, you will be a key contributor to our Actuarial team. Possible tasks that you assist with include:

  • Perform analysis on our loss experience to determine potential rate changes
  • Partner with our Data Science team on pricing models and any impact on our products’ rates
  • Update our competitive analysis using market intelligence
  • Create improved methods of analyzing data
  • Other actuarial tasks as assigned 
Requirements

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field
  • Two years of college preferred 
  • A basic understanding of actuarial techniques 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel
  • Well-developed written and communication skills
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Proven Project Management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task, and establish/meet deadlines

Compensation Overview:

The base pay offered for this position will be $24.00/hour with an additional $1/hour with each actuarial exam passed.
