Description

Family Star Montessori is currently seeking to fill the position of Nutrition Assistant for our Northwest Denver location. This position is a part-time Seasonal postion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  


The Nutrition Assistant supports the daily school meal service by preparing catered foods for use in the classrooms for breakfast, lunch and snack. The Nutrition Assistant maintains food safety standards and hygiene including cleaning and sanitization of child food service spaces and dishes.  


Meal Services

  • Receives and checks daily delivery of catered foods
  • Portions food items for breakfast, lunch and snack for all classrooms following proper CACFP meal pattern requirements and serving sizes
  • Ensures that menu items are distributed to classrooms in a manner suitable for Montessori family style dining
  • Distributes clearly labeled food substitutions to classrooms for children with allergies/special diets

Food Safety

  • Ensures that catered foods are stored properly and in a timely fashion to maintain safe temperatures 
  • Checks and records food temperatures of hot held food items daily before portioning
  • Checks and records temperatures of main kitchen food storage refrigerator once per week
  • Maintains milk inventory; checks expiration dates weekly and ensures first in, first out organization of refrigerator 

Cleaning

  • Follows proper handwashing procedures, uses personal protective equipment, and maintains a high level of personal hygiene
  • Rotates through classrooms to clean and sanitize classroom meal dishes
  • Leaves kitchen clean and orderly. Wipes down counters and catering trays 
  • Ensures all applicable sanitation standards for food holding, service and preparation areas are maintained according to the health department and licensing standards
  • Cleans the child’s food refrigerator as needs and at least once per week

Supply Management 

  • Maintain and restock Nutrition Assistant supplies in the main kitchen, such as food temp thermometers, refrigerator thermometer, portioning and serving implements, paper towels, plastic wrap, and cleaning supplies

Other

  • Participate in recommended training programs, educational conferences, professional days, staff meetings, and other courses pertinent to professional growth
  • Collaborate with Supervisor to develop and implement professional development plan and goals
  • Maintain positive work attitude; share information with appropriate persons or supervisor
  • Treat program participants and community members with positive regard and respect 
  • Follow ALL policies & procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook or otherwise
  • Maintain and update work plans
  • Follow attendance policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements


  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to work the hours of the position based on the organization’s needs
  • Must be motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team 
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude with a commitment to customer service
  • Must have oral and written proficiency in the English language 
  • Must complete clearance of a background check, post-offer, pre-employment physical, and TB test
  • CACFP training and food handling training must be completed by the employee during their initial review period, and annually thereafter

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in educational setting
  • Previous experience with CACFP
  • Previous experience in the food service industry
  • Knowledge of food handling procedures

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability to perform the following job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodations:-kneeling -bending -sitting on the floor -pushing -pulling -rising from kneeling/sitting position-running -jumping -raising arms above the head-mopping  -washing -twisting at the waist-sweeping -lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds
