Career Transition Readiness/Career Transition Services Supervisor-SPR

Job Summary: Manages the career transition service of young adults (16-24) who have been enrolled in the Job Corps program. Ensures that placement quotas per the Regional Department of Labor contract are met. Managers the transition of students from center training to successful entry into a career choice such as jobs, military, or college. Manages the tracking of each graduate for one year or more following initial placements.  

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensures regular contact is maintained with graduates and former enrollees to monitor their post-placement progress and needs assessment throughout the service period.
  • Ensures each graduate’s needs are met and assistance provided throughout the service period with regard to housing, transportation, childcare, health care, work clothing and tools, food and nutrition, budgeting, counseling/mentoring, job retention and legal services.
  • Coordinates linkages with community assistance and social service agencies in the local area to facilitate the referral of graduates for appropriate services.
  • Manages the development of job leads and/or educational and traini.ng opportunities for graduates by ensuring positive interface with business and industry representatives, community leaders, Workforce Investment Boards, Youth Councils and One-Stop Centers and by utilizing all available Internet resource.
  • Ensures that each graduate who is not placed upon separation is provided with assistance in resume development, interviewing skills, job search strategies and current, relevant information on the labor market, available training opportunities, educational alternatives and armed forces programs.
  • Oversees the placement assistance provided to graduates whose initial placement ends during the service period. Ensures that leads and referrals are provided to assist graduates in obtaining job upgrades.
  • Oversees the Career Readiness Program conducted for potential enrollees prior to their entry into Job Corps. 
  • Coordinates positive working relationships with One-Stop partners and Workforce Investment Boards to promote the Job Corps program and to develop referral sources of eligible youth who could benefit from participation in Job Corps
  • Ensure all plans are developed and written in accordance with PRH guidelines.
  • Interviews and selects staff, recommends hire or retention.
  • Develops a planned orientation program for new hires and provides in-service training for departmental staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring departmental equal employment and affirmative action goals and objectives are met.


Requirements

Qualifications:

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, business administration, career counseling or work-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years’ experience in recruitment, marketing or related field, one of which was in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Preferred: Minimum plus Job Corps experience. 

Knowledge: Knowledge of the Job Corps program. Excellent public relations skills. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent organizational skills. Knowledge of local labor market and ability to analyze labor market trends. Knowledge of effective supervisory techniques. Ability to direct and inspire staff. Strong working knowledge of computer systems. Ability to maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certificate.
