Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 

  

About the Organization:

African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) is a culturally specific, community-founded organization led by visionary Black women and a community Board of Directors. ACHD works towards an informed African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community that is engaged in the holistic development of families, communities, and environment. ACHD focuses on equitable and culturally relevant health, legal, and educational services; housing stability and economic development; and land-use, real estate, and property development. Collectively, ACHD staff speak a dozen languages, and the majority identify as Black or People of Color.


Job Summary:

The Education Manager oversees all aspects of ACHD’s high-quality Education Program, providing hands-on experiential outdoor and STEM learning opportunities for African Diaspora immigrant and refugee youth. The position will motivate and manage staff, provide in-classroom instruction, design curriculum, and manage relationships with partners, funders, and families. This position is well-suited for an experienced, culturally competent educator passionate about STEM and outdoor education.


Duties & Responsibilities:  

  •  Manage and administer all details of ACHD’s Education Programs 
  • Design and approve curriculum for all Program classes 
  •  Recruit presenters and mentors for program involvement 
  • Oversee Family Days and Community Cafe conversations to ensure successful family engagement in Education programs 
  • Manage scheduling of Education Department staff and provide in-classroom instruction to ensure favorable student/instructor ratios in all classes 
  • Manage and mentor Education Department staff, including regular performance reviews 
  • Manage Education Department budgets and create regular reports for funders, including both narrative and data-based reports 
  • Maintain warm relationships with school districts, partner nonprofits, and community families 
  • Provide high-quality narrative and financial reporting for Education Department funders
  • Available weekends for youth and family excursions, evenings for family engagement events and overnight camping trips.
  • Have a valid driver's license and be comfortable driving students Washington state parks

Required Qualifications:

  •  Experience working with children and youth 
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines 
  • Ability to design and teach program curriculum 
  • Strong communication and writing skills, preferably report writing 
  • Experience working respectfully with diverse communities, including non-English speakers 
  • Management/supervision experience; ability to motivate and support staff members 
  • Experience managing education programs and budgets 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and demands, establish priorities, manage deadlines, and work effectively in an energetic environment 
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field 
  • Valid WA state driver’s license 
  • National background check and verification of COVID vaccination will be required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in an African language 
  • Master’s degree in education or a related field
