Teacher Substitute
Description

SUMMARY: With supervision, substitutes for regular classroom teacher, providing educational programs to assigned group of students who are visually impaired, including those with multiple disabilities.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Essential Functions:

1. Implements/carries out lesson plans for instruction to students who are visually impaired, deaf/blind, and/or students with multiple disabilities on an individual and group basis in their appropriate mediums.

2. Provides direct care to assigned students which may require the ability to stand and walk frequently with little opportunity to sit during the course of a standard work day.

3. Implements established daily student schedules, as assigned under the directive of case manager and/or lead program assistant which may require the ability to physically handle and assist other persons in the performance of daily activities and can involve bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, etc.

4. Manages challenging behaviors using de-escalating techniques; implements behavior programs as written.

5. Coordinating service:

a. Manages classroom resources

b. Coordinates data collection and recording.

Marginal Functions:

1. Performs additional duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS:

Equipment Used: Augmentative communication Devices; computer; copy machine; and a variety of instructional equipment; exercise/recreational equipment; and mobility Devices; ALFA keyboard; adaptive/therapeutic equipment; assistive technology devices' and health related equipment. 

Performance Standard: Will assure 100% commitment to the integration, coordination, and implementation of student programs, and compliance with supervision, health, and safety standards.

Work Environment: Multiple indoor and outdoor environments around and off campus with varying sound, lighting, and temperature conditions. May be exposed to various conditions when providing direct care to assigned students.

Work Schedule: Assignments are on a daily basis. Assignments are usually made on a daily basis at 5.5 hours per day, with a 30 minute unpaid break time per day.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills and general abilities:

1. General knowledge of education principles, practices, and procedures. Experience with adapted physical education is a plus. 

2. Minimum of Bachelor's degree.

3. Must be at least 21 years of age. 


After six months in this position, the employee is required to have certification in CPR, and training completion in crisis prevention/intervention.

$19.35 - $22.15
