Houston Habitat has built more than 1,200 homes in 12 Houston neighborhoods, including the Fifth Ward, Clinton Park, Settegast, Sunnyside, and Carverdale. In addition to building, the organization has also repaired homes throughout Houston due to natural disasters; since Hurricane Harvey Houston Habitat has repaired more than 700 homes for families who are without resources to make repairs.

Position Summary

The Digital Marketing Specialist will drive Houston Habitat for Humanity’s mission, vision and values by implementing social media and digital marketing activities, partnering with contracted experts and staff across the organization, and serving as a good steward of Houston Habitat’s brand and resources. This position is the primary role accountable for Houston Habitat’s social media presence and digital advertising to identify clients, drive donations, volunteers, and other support to the organization.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Execute a comprehensive social media plan for client acquisition, donor and volunteer growth, traffic to brick-and-mortar retail, and awareness of Houston Habitat’s mission.
  • Manage the social media editorial calendar and generate content for all social media accounts in partnership with staff and consultants.
  • Create messaging, video, and graphics for social media and email marketing that align with organization brand and tone.
  • Maintain relationships and processes to gather content from employees and partners.
  • Procure digital ad space and create advertising graphics to drive partnership and support of Houston Habitat.
  • Monitor comments on all platforms and interact with followers to answer questions.
  • Track and report social and email metrics and provide analysis to improve performance. Develop measures to track impact of social media activity on applications, donations, volunteer participation, and store sales.
  • Observe digital media trends, including developments in platforms, strategy and technology, and offer recommendations.
  • Engage influencers and partners to expand content reach.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of digital campaigns.
  • Supervise work of digital media consultants.
  • Support organization communication and marketing activities.
Requirements

Education, Experience & Skills Required

  • A minimum three (3) years of experience running social media platforms for a nonprofit organization or company.
  • Experience with digital marketing, email marketing, and drafting effective marketing content for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, ability to understand and employ brand tone and practice extremely good judgment.
  • Experience engaging in rapid response on social media platforms with the ability to work after hours and weekends when necessary to ensure timeliness of content updates.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written, visual, and verbal.
  • Demonstrated skill in copywriting and testing messaging in social media and email content.
  • Experience analyzing social media channels and content performance.
  • Creativity and flexibility to adjust to new situations and changing needs.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and video editing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive feedback, take accountability, and continually adapt, grow, learn and improve.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with ability to set and adhere to schedules.
  • Willingness to engage in “hands-on” work as needed to meet organization objectives.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Technical Skills Required

  • Experience managing various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, and YouTube
  • Experience using various content management systems such as Hootsuite.
  • Working knowledge Adobe Create Suite and Canva
  • Proficient in working within the MS Office environment.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally work outside of traditional business hours, including some weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to work independently and to supervise internal and contract staff.
  • Must be able to perform essential functions of job. Reasonable accommodations are available.
  • Regular and frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions (hot, humid, rain, and cold).
