Job Summary: Step aboard The POLAR EXPRESS™ and bring the magic of Christmas to life as the Hobo or Conductor! As a key performer in this fully costumed, interactive role, you will portray one of these iconic characters from The POLAR EXPRESS™ during a live, immersive experience. You’ll frequently move throughout the event, engaging guests and interacting with the Hero Boy to create unforgettable moments for passengers. This dynamic role requires high energy, improvisation, and a passion for storytelling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Fully embody the character of the Hobo or Conductor, performing in costume and bringing the character’s unique traits to life during the event.
- Hobo: Mysterious, playful, and wise, this character often engages with the Hero Boy and guests with humor and intrigue.
- Conductor: Professional, welcoming, and authoritative, leading the journey while delivering key moments of the story with heart and warmth.
- Actively engage with passengers of all ages, creating memorable experiences through conversation, improvisation, and performance.
- Play a key role in advancing the narrative of The Polar Express by interacting with the Hero Boy and other performers, ensuring the audience feels immersed in the story.
- Move between different areas of the train or event venue, interacting with guests in multiple locations, maintaining high energy and enthusiasm throughout the show.
- Stay in character for the duration of the event, adapting your performance to different audience sizes and energy levels while keeping the atmosphere magical and engaging.
- Collaborate with other performers and event staff to ensure smooth transitions between scenes and that all aspects of the show run according to schedule.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all guests while maintaining a high standard of professionalism throughout the event.
Qualifications:
- Experience in acting, theater, or interactive performance, particularly in roles involving audience participation, is preferred.
- Strong improvisational skills with the ability to engage with guests in a fast-paced environment.
- High energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for delivering memorable guest experiences.
- Ability to move frequently throughout the event and work in various environments, including on a moving train (if applicable).
- Must be able to wear a full costume and stay in character for extended periods.
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
Work Environment:
- Availability during evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the event season.
- Flexibility between November 1, 2024-January 5, 2025.
- Willing to work in cold, snowy or otherwise inclement winter weather
- Able to walk in inclement and/or wintry weather and in low-light/nighttime environments
