OVERVIEW:  Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS: 

  • Compare identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records 
  • Affix shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. 
  • Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers. 
  • Insert items into containers 
  • Stamp, stencil, or glue identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. 
  • Unpack and examine incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify damages and shortages 
  • Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications 
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies 
  • Operate tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and extreme cold (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Distance vision and Peripheral vision. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education/Experience: 

  • No prior experience or training necessary 

Certificates and Licenses: 

  • Must be forklift and pallet jack trained and certified 

Language Ability: 

  • Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos 
  • Able to write simple correspondence 

Math Ability: 

  • Able to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. 
  • Able to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance 

Reasoning Ability: 

  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form 

Computer Skills: 

  • Knowledge of inventory software and order processing systems

$18/hr
