WHAT YOU'LL DO
The CCB Compliance Director is a senior compliance position at the Bank and reports directly to the Senior Director of CCB & Digital Compliance and plays a key role in the Compliance department. The CCB Compliance Director is responsible for helping to oversee and enhance the compliance management system (CMS) of the Bank. The CCB Compliance Director will manage the CCB Compliance program and work directly with the Bank’s business units’ senior staff and/or leadership to provide strategic regulatory compliance guidance and problem-solving expertise. The CCB Compliance Director supports the Senior Director of CCB & Digital Compliance in maturing the Compliance Program, processes, technology, and reporting in support of the Bank’s growth strategy and risk. The CCB Compliance Director works closely with internal stakeholders across the three lines of defense to reinforce risk awareness and compliance culture framework that supports the identification, measurement, reporting, and management of Bank-wide Compliance related opportunities and risks. This position is vital for enabling the Bank to develop cutting-edge products and services in Payments, Lending, and Deposits in a compliant manner. The CCB Compliance Director helps to design and implement a robust control environment that ensures compliance while fostering innovation. In addition to advisory duties, this role leads and mentors staff within Compliance, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous learning. The CCB Compliance Director supports the Senior Director of CCB & Digital Compliance in providing timely and actionable reporting to the appropriate Management and Board level committees and in managing audits and regulatory examinations.
HOW YOU'LL DO IT
- Support the Senior Director of CCB & Digital Compliance to develop, administer and monitor the implementation of a CMS that provides assurance over the Bank’s compliance with all applicable laws and regulations applicable to its operations and product offerings.
- Actively monitor external resources for emerging regulatory compliance trends or changes to the compliance environment.
- Continually assess the compliance risk needs of the Bank’s business units in response to growth and evolving business activities and help support the Compliance Program accordingly.
- Maintain proficient knowledge of and ensure Bank activities are performed in compliance with, all applicable state and federal banking laws and regulations applicable to assigned areas of oversight.
- Manage compliance risk professionals who work directly with the line of business to identify risks, develop assessments, provide input over controls and testing, advise on, and monitor remediation activities and create reporting.
- Provide direct reports with proper tools and authority to execute their assigned functions. Develop skills of staff through goal setting, coaching, problem resolution, delegation, training, counseling, and performance management.
- Assist staff with escalations related to line of business improvements to correct any operational deficiencies found in internal reviews and audits, or regulatory examinations.
- Serve as subject matter expert to provide compliance advice and guidance to Fintech Partners while addressing any compliance questions. Take lead on regulatory change management initiatives by performing comprehensive regulatory research and oversee and lead various task forces or discussion groups to address lending compliance related matters and develop implementation and enhancement strategies.
- Engage with peers across the three lines of defense to establish effective and collaborative relationships and feedback loops to identify and address root causes of issues.
- Maintain effective communication with peers, business leaders, executives (directly or through discussion groups, task forces, etc.), and/or process owners so that all stakeholders are informed about compliance requirements and have the awareness to work together to mitigate compliance risk exposure.
- Oversee and perform the Compliance risk assessment of Bank’s new or modifications to product and service offerings to identify any compliance related issues and/or new regulatory requirements.
- Manage the development and recommend approval of compliance policies, ensuring that standards, procedures, and guidelines comply with applicable laws and regulations, the Bank’s risk appetite, tolerances, and policies.
- Research laws and regulations when special requests or unique circumstances arise.
- Independently investigate and act on matters related to compliance and risk.
- Support the collection of information for regulatory examinations and compliance-related audits; conduct post-examination follow up, prepare responses to examination and audit reports, and oversee corrective actions.
- Support the Senior Director of CCB & Digital Compliance in the preparation and presentation of clear and concise reporting to the Board of Directors, Management, and committees.
- Report to the Senior Director of CCB & Digital Compliance on a regular basis, providing status updates related to the oversight of the Bank.
- Support other key compliance and risk management projects as needed and provide internal service in accordance with Coastal Core Values.
- Because we are a rapidly changing organization, there will be other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial services and deposit, lending, and privacy compliance laws and regulations (e.g., Regulation E, Truth in Savings Act, Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP), FACTA, Reg Z-Truth in Lending, Reg B-Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act).
- Exceptional ability to read, analyze and interpret governmental laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance and exercise strong investigative, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills and ability to provide workable recommendations and solutions.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and priorities to meet deadlines.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement and perform complex analytical work independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to diplomatically and concisely summarize issues, articulate complex concepts clearly, create reports effectively, and interact with variety of individuals within all levels of the department and the financial institution, including senior and executive leadership.
- Must possess initiative, be a self-starter, have exceptional organizational skills and a high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain functional regulatory compliance knowledge through research, training and/or coursework.
- Superior dedication to integrity, producing high quality results, and meeting deadlines.
- Willing to follow and comply with all applicable regulatory compliance laws.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Products. Can build proficiency in other software solutions used by the Compliance group.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years of relevant experience in compliance, risk management, audit, or legal roles in the financial services industry preferably with some Fintech exposure, and at least 3 years in a leadership position; or proven success in current role at Coastal with strong references.
- Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree such as an MBA or law degree preferred) or equivalent combination of education, professional certification and/or experience.
- Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation, or ability to obtain.
- Leadership and people management experience in compliance, risk management, or audit, and regulatory examination processes and activities.
