Position Purpose
This is a professional level position accountable for creating and developing proprietary content across all forms of media for CLSI. The Marketing Content Specialist is responsible for creating a broad range of content focused on increasing market awareness for CLSI programs and products and for supporting the development of education/training materials and derivative products. The position is responsible for participating in CLSI’s collaborative, and cooperative remote work environment, and for exhibiting CLSI’s values in all work performed.
ACCOUNTABLE FUNCTIONS
Content Marketing
- Partners with internal and external stakeholders to ideate and create strategic content and copy to fulfill organizational objectives.
- Writes internal and external communication pieces in a variety of formats (including but not limited to press releases, press kits, emails, newsletters articles and blog posts, social media, membership and product marketing materials, website content and shop listings, and education course content) to support overall marketing objectives.
- Proactively identifies opportunities to translate technical content into marketing and informational graphics (eg, infographics, charts, lists, etc.) and collaborates with CLSI Design to produce channel-appropriate deliverables.
- Researches content marketing trends to improve and innovate upon strategic deliverables.
- Manages and maintains content calendar to consistently provide a pipeline of both evergreen and time-specific long-format content opportunities for multiple channels (eg, bylined articles, op-eds, blog posts, guest blog opps, education and program content, etc.)
- Develops storyboards and content for multimedia formats, including but not limited to video and audio voiceover.
- Manages CLSI permission requests process and procedures.
General Marketing
- Edits and proofreads marketing and education content developed by staff, volunteers, and vendor partners to ensure CLSI style and quality standards are met.
- Assists with marketing list research and creation.
- Manages relationship with newswire distribution service and executes press release distribution over platform.
- Ensures excellence in content development for products and services by way of content proofing to ensure adherence to CLSI style and general grammatical and spelling rules.
- Assists members of the organization with responding to volunteer/member/customer needs within the position’s scope.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
RESPONSIBLE AND SUPPORT FUNCTIONS

This position does not have direct revenue responsibilities; however, the role is responsible for efficient and effective use of CLSI resources.

Image/Brand Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring consistent organizational image and presence in all performed activities, services, and products; supports branding and presentations for volunteers, members, and staff.
- Responsible for professionalism, excellence, ethics, and inclusiveness of all education/training products.
- Responsible for collaboration through teamwork with staff, volunteers, stakeholders, and other partners.
People Management Responsibilities
No direct reports. Collaborates with internal stakeholders, vendors, SMEs, and cross-functional partners for project execution. May entail research and/or interviewing of non-CLSI constituents for journalistic/editorial purposes.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The Marketing Content Specialist works under regular supervision and is expected to diligently safeguard CLSI’s brand and maximize the quality, accuracy, and consistency of CLSI’s education/training, marketing, and informational products. The position interacts with CLSI staff across the organization and communicates directly with volunteers, members, and other key stakeholders.
REQUIRED Knowledge, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
- Deep knowledge and understanding of CLSI, its membership and volunteer base, and its standards development structure.
- Experience ideating, writing, and developing content for press releases, blogs, earned media opportunities, SEO, social media, advertising, long and short form and multimedia vehicles.
- General knowledge of laboratory medicine and the health care sector.
- General understanding of CLSI’s interconnected technology and systems.
- General knowledge of non-profit association management.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong creative and business writing skills across all forms of organizational communication.
- Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products and basic Adobe products, e.g., Acrobat.
- Ability to learn and use new technology platforms, including but not limited to website content management platform, CMS, LMS systems, digital asset management application, etc.
- Demonstrated capabilities using sound and mature judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and proactive manner; excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
- Ability to proactively generate new content approaches and opportunities and present them to internal stakeholders for consideration and execution.
- Highly organized, process driven, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and process information in support of changing program activities as necessary.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff while maintaining an approachable and professional demeanor.
- Preferred: Multimedia creation and editing to include videography, infographics and visual media.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with writing in healthcare and life sciences fields desirable.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
