Nature of Work:
Performs routine work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater treatment plant. Under close supervision performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work and operate a variety of equipment. This position requires the ability to obtain sufficient knowledge and skills to operate the wastewater plant and equipment. The employee shall work under the direction of a certified operator until able to obtain appropriate license.
Responsibilities:

- Checks motors, pumps and equipment for proper operation and performs routine maintenance and repairs.
- Read, interpret, and adjust meters and gauges to make sure plant equipment and processes are working properly.
- Maintain appearance of plant by painting, weeding, mowing, etc.
- Safeguard all assigned tools, equipment, electronics from theft, loss, destruction and/or negligence.
- Monitor the performance of all equipment, gauges and charts in the treatment plant; reports problems to others as they are encountered.
- Under close supervision, operate, maintain, and repair malfunctions, repair gauges, pumps, filters, and other controls and equipment.
- Become trained and perform wastewater quality control tests using appropriate methodology.
- Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety, environmental, and security standards.
- Shift work may be required
- Monitor water quality.
- General housekeeping.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to learn standard procedures for chemical treatment and disinfecting.
- Safety practices appropriate for dealing with occupational and health hazards encountered.
- Utilize computer for monitoring telemetry system, alarms, and maintenance management program.
- Ability to read and interpret standard operating procedures.
- Use of power tools such as saws, compressors, sanders, grinders, etc. as required.
- Use of common hand tools.
- Work in a team environment.
- Work in crouching, climbing, and bending positions.
- Able to climb ladders.
- Available to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- State of Florida Certification Class āCā Water/Wastewater Treatment must be obtained within 24 months.
