THE OPPORTUNITYThe Director, Destination Sales plays a pivotal role in marketing and selling Los Angeles as a premier destination for meetings and conventions. Acting as the key liaison for LA Tourism’s Lead Hotel and venue partners, both within the Tourism Marketing District (TMD) and non-TMD properties, the Director coordinates efforts such as site inspections, familiarization trips, and client engagement events. This role also involves supporting business development by identifying high-yield markets and contributing to booking conversions. Additionally, the Director will act as a subject matter expert on LA Tourism’s member regions, contribute to sales strategy discussions, and represent the organization at industry events. With a strong focus on building relationships and driving results, this position requires initiative, industry knowledge, and flexibility for travel and events. This is a remote position; however, candidates must be based in the Los Angeles area. 
 WHAT YOU WILL DO  
  • Serve as an active liaison for all LA Tourism Lead Hotel and venue members within Los Angeles and for the entire portfolio of Tourism Marketing District (TMD) and non-TMD Lead Hotels. Responsibilities include conducting scheduled quarterly visits and managing all ad hoc requests and communications such as deployment updates, hotel renovations, and coordination of travel, tradeshow, familiarization trips, and sales missions. Collaborate on revenue strategizing by identifying high-yield feeder markets, assessing viable vertical segments, and critical need dates. Additionally, act as the “face” of the LA Tourism organization and Hotel Sales in all related engagements. (40%)
  • Perform essential business activities including, but not limited to; planning and coordinating complex customer site inspections for Lead Hotel members and member venues. Serve as a primary contributor in organizing and delivering regional familiarizing trips, client blitzes, missions, and events. This “Site Inspection Specialist” role supports account engagement and relationship management efforts, aids National Director, Hotel Sales in driving client relations, and contributes to booking conversions for professional meetings and events. (25%)
  • Act as the subject matter expert for all LA Tourism Member Regions, maintaining comprehensive knowledge of those markets, member hotels, member venues, and competitive destinations. Continuously assess new and existing account prospects to be added to the Hotel Sales account portfolio. (10%)
  • Actively participate in weekly and monthly sales meetings, sales strategy sessions, annual sales meetings, training sessions, bi-weekly 1-on-1 meetings, and other sales related meetings, as required. (10%)
  • Attend trade shows, industry and customer events, sales missions, familiarization trips, and meetings that are strategically identified to drive direct sales to the Los Angeles member Lead Hotels. (5%)
  • Accountable for established goals which are determined annually. (5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)

 SOME OTHER THINGS YOU MAY DO

  • Maintain regular, detailed, and accurate use of the organization’s CRM (SimpleView) to manage and document all account information, contacts, and proactive selling activity. 
  • Regular and proficient use of online and digital sales tools including but not limited to the meetLA website, meetLA App, Virtual Discovery virtual tour, Venue Finder tool, and other relevant platforms.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED 

  • A minimum of 6-8 years’ relevant experience required, of which 1-2 years must be directly related to selling and meetings/events planning and execution. 
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and be able to drive a vehicle for work-related travel as needed and as applicable to the position. 
  • Must be willing to partake in a comprehensive background check including a drug test in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Occasional domestic travel two times per year. 
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed, typically two or more times per month. 
  • Proactive selling and/or customer service experience within the Tourism, DMO and/or Hospitality disciplines is required. 
  • Previous multi-unit hotel sales preferred. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain a systematic approach for assuring high standards of productivity within the department.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Dependable, great attitude, highly motivated and a team player.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various departments. 
  • Ability to work in a changing environment.

NICE TO HAVES 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred (Tourism or Hospitality).
  • Prior experience in DMO/CVB Group Sales, Multi-unit Hotel Group Sales, and/or Hotel NSO/GSO Sales experience preferred. 

COMPENSATION RANGE

Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.

$100,000 - $115,000 annually
