As the Head of HSSS in the Marine Industry, you are responsible for implementing and maintaining a Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability management system. The management system includes hazard identification evaluation and control, accident/injury prevention, hazardous material/waste management, emergency preparedness, fire/life safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and environmental regulatory compliance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ø Ensure safe, healthy, and environmentally regulated/allowed working conditions are always followed.
Ø Monitors the effective implementation of appropriate Safety and Environment System procedures and provide for their updating in line with changes in Legislation and Company Directives.
Ø Provides motivation and familiarization of all Company personnel respecting the importance of complying with company safety policies and procedures and usage of appropriate PPE.
Ø Strengthen the safety culture in the organization by engaging/involving the management/team members and by building strong teamwork with the union workforce.
Ø Ensure HSSS policies, procedures, and systems to provide for a safe and secure business operation are successfully imbedded in the organization. Conducts internal safety audits on a timely basis.
Ø Carries out safety audits on Sub-contractors, as well as environmental and security audits.
Ø Responsible for the successful interface management and terminal operations are done in compliance with applicable safety standards.
Ø Provide expert advice and support to Management on any safety related subjects.
Ø Enforce safe working practices and ensure lost time injuries are managed well and ultimately towards continuously improved LTIF development. Reports all WCB claims and follows up with employees who are involved in incidents, laisses with HR on any claim related appeals.
Ø Lead accident/incident investigations, Complete Root Cause Analysis and actions required in a timely manner. Leads all investigations with primary, secondary and tertiary witnesses in deciphering root cause analysis; reviews all reports, identifies trends, and follows up accordingly on any corrective and preventive actions with Department Managers.
Ø Control, eliminate and prevent occupational disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, biological, and/or ergonomic factors.
Ø Ensure that all safety, security & environmental issues are managed fulfilling the requirements of all the regulations applicable by national law.
Ø Performs Risk Assessments and job safety analysis.
Ø Carries out analysis of accident / incident statistics, identifying trends and suggesting improvement plans.
Ø Manage security staff to make sure all our security-related deliverables are met on a timely basis.
Ø Leads emergency response activities as required.
Ø Keeps inspection data on safety and security equipment, evaluates its effectiveness and suggests improvements.
Ø Researches, develops, and implements new health, safety, security and environment related programs so that employee knowledge is current and up to date.
Ø Updates management with respect to HSSE issues, program status and initiatives
Ø Ensures sustainability goals are met and/or maintained.
Ø Enforces a culture to ensure Penn’s policies, procedures and processes are followed.
Ø Coordinating Periodic Safety and Security Mock drill and debriefing.
Ø Act as the chief coordinator for emergency response and while the terminal is functioning at a heightened Marsec level.
Ø Represent the company with Federal and Provincial government organizations related to safety, security and health.
Ø Be a change agent for implementing Global Minimum Requirements for Safety through the organization.
REQUIREENTS:
Ø OSHA training from a recognizable institution.
Ø Experience working in an ISO Quality Management System where the role included document and data control.
Ø Stay updated on maritime regulations and industry best practices and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.
Ø Working experience in a Health and Safety Management role within the shipping industry.
Ø Combination of work and educational experience in vessel operations, preferably in a marine terminal or stevedoring company.
Ø Experience in international logistics and/or marine terminals a plus, but not a pre-requisite.
Ø Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Ø Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
