Position Summary:
The Associate Director of Business Development (BD) Search & Evaluation will be critical in expanding the company’s portfolio through strategic partnerships, licensing, and acquisitions. This role involves identifying and evaluating business development opportunities and leading efforts to inform and guide business development strategy.
This role is a US remote-based position.
Responsibilities:
- Identify relevant business development opportunities through external meetings, attending conferences, use of industry databases
- Lead deal competitive intelligence efforts across relevant Rare Disease areas and derive competitive insights to inform BD strategy
- Develop and evaluate competitive landscapes for specific indications and products as needed
- Work with internal stakeholders across functions (Commercial, Medical, Manufacturing, Finance, and Legal) to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of Business development opportunities
- Assist in due diligence processes by screening/consolidating data and coordinating between broad interdisciplinary teams
- Lead cross-functional due diligence teams to conduct triaging and assessment of all inbound opportunities, conduct deep scientific/clinical due diligence, and deliver assessments of technical/commercial risks by integrating high-level stakeholder input and senior management review
- Facilitate diligence planning and lead diligence interactions with external parties. Prepare high-quality deliverables for diligence findings and recommendations and coordinate with key functional leads
- Perform market research as needed to inform modeling and forecasting of business development opportunities
- Support the development of complex financial models to evaluate potential acquisition targets and/or in-licensing opportunities
- Serve as primary contact with external business development
- Manage relationships with 3rd party consultants and advisors in support of due diligence and financial evaluations
Education/Experience/Skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in science (chemistry, pharmacy, biology, or a related field) or business/finance is required
- Master’s degree in economics or business administration preferred
- At least 5-10 years of relevant experience is required; experience in pharma with investment banking or strategic consultancy is advantageous
- Proven track record in leading R&D, commercial, financial, or business development projects
- Strong expertise in Excel, particularly for developing financial models, revenue forecasts, NPV assessments, and pro forma analysis
- Experience with competitive intelligence databases and virtual data rooms.
- Understanding of drug development processes across functions
- Excellent analytical and presentation skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with both internal and external multidisciplinary teams/customers
- Ability to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Capability to direct multiple projects simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment
