Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.
The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Arts in Medical Science, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy enrolling over 550 students annually with plans to develop other programs and/or colleges. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five state region.
PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. General Summary:
Builds supportive, trusting relationships and assists students with achieving their true potential. Partners with department leadership to facilitate the identification of students with potential learning disabilities and helps students to develop effective learning strategies that promote academic improvement. Maintains regular communication with faculty, academic advisors, and other related personnel to monitor academic progress. Directs academic retention services and participates in the overall administration of the tutoring program.
Essential Job Functions:
• Develops and oversees student tutorial and recitation program, sessions, tutors, and recitation leaders.
• Provides training and professional development to tutors and recitation leaders.
• Meets with students individually as needed to provide consultation, coaching, and/or referral with respect to academic success strategies.
• Serves as a resource and provides appropriate referral services.
• Prepares comprehensive reports for submission to the appropriate academic program leadership, committees, or other entities on behalf of the students.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
Education:
• Required: Master's Degree
Experience:
• Required: 1-3 years
• Preferred: Three (3) + years of experience providing academic support in education or a college/university environment
• Preferred: Demonstrated experience with at-risk or non-traditional student populations
• Preferred: Prior experience in advising students in a healthcare profession

Skill in effective communication (both written and oral); skill in independent decision making; skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature; skill in problem solving; skill in public speaking; skill in coordinating and monitoring the work of others; skill in use of Microsoft Office 365 programs and platforms, including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Word; familiarity with Slate; knowledge of advising, student success, and counseling practices; knowledge of customer service principles and practices; and ability to maintain professional composure in emergent and crisis situations.
