SUMMARY

The person in this position will be part of a team that provides outstanding experiences for individuals and groups to grow through the experience of facilitating adventure activities, as well as providing outstanding hospitality and service to individuals and groups. The members of this team will serve as challenge course, team building, and high rope adventure guides, and/or lifeguards (being a lifeguard is not required for position but is highly encouraged). 


The person in this position will also assist the Guest Services team by preparing facilities for guest use, cleaning sleeping rooms, meeting areas, restrooms and public spaces. They will also assist in the kitchen by helping with preparing the dining hall for meals and cleaning after meals when needed. They shall be knowledgeable and proficient and will have earned the required certifications for one or more of these roles. They will be scheduled according to their specific training and skill levels to fill work shifts within these classifications and certifications as these demands will vary with the schedule from day to day and week to week.


All team members are expected to maintain an environment of professionalism, safety and fun. The person in this position shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior towards colleagues, guests, supervisors, volunteers and guests. Regular attendance is essential for this position. Adherence to a published, departmental schedule is expected and required. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following; other duties may be assigned:

  1. Activities Staff (demonstrated upon training):
  • Demonstrate competency to belay/spot elements and activities.
  • Demonstrate proper set up of gear on ground and use of appropriate knots.
  • Competent in ability to instruct and supervise participants on different challenge course and high rope elements.
  • Demonstrate proper belay set up and belay method.
  • Obtain and maintain up-to-date challenge course procedures at Black Diamond. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to see and manage inherent risk to minimize the risk of injury.

2. Lifeguard (demonstrated upon training):

  • Obtain Red Cross Lifeguard Certification at Black Diamond Camp if not already certified.
  • Demonstrate effective patron surveillance of up to 100 swimmers with the aquatic team.
  • Demonstrate competency to recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Able to properly open and close up aquatic environments.
  • Able to identify and manage environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Competent in ability to instruct participants in pool rules and/or basic swim instruction.

3. Food Service:

  • Responsible to perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner in harmony with the Food Service team. 
  • Know safe food handling practices an follow them (must have a valid food handlers' card).
  • Work as a team to ensure the daily setup. monitoring and cleanup of customer contact and back of house work areas:
  • Setting tables, buffet lines, salad bar and drink stations consistently, according to set standards. 
  • Stocking, restock and serving food, beverages, snacks and supplies as needed, to ensure exceptional guest experience. 
  • Cleanup of dining room, kitchen, serving areas and dish room.

4. Accommodations:

  • Clean sleeping and meeting rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, stairways and other work areas.
  • Set up tables and chairs in auditorium and meeting rooms.
  • Make beds and prepare sleeping rooms for next guests.
  • Empty trash from sleeping rooms, common areas and outdoor areas.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain

Lifeguard Certification from approved organization or ability to obtain certification from PVM or equivalent training

King County Food Handler's Card

Valid Driver's License to be authorized to drive camp vehicles. *Not Required


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group and large group situations.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to: stand, walk and/or sit for extended periods of time; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision requirements of the position includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly talk or hear. The physical demands described here are representative of the minimum physical requirements that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


ON-CAMP HOUSING CONDITION

The employee in this position is required to live on the camp premises in staff housing in order to provide round-the-clock supervision of campers and volunteers and fulfill the program requirements of this position.
