WORK LOCATION: New York, NY

HYBRID SCHEDULE: This role requires minimum 2 in-office days per week at our NYC Office

As the nation's first and NYC's largest youth mentoring organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City (BBBS of NYC) connects generations of New Yorkers by matching a caring adult mentor, a Big, with an New York City youth, a Little. Through evidence based, goal-centered, professional supporting programming, BBBS of NYC provides consistent support and guidance to matches that result in longer, stronger match relationships that advance the social-emotional development and academic progress of young people across the five boroughs.  


JOB SUMMARY 

As an integral member of the College & Career Success team, the College & Career Success Manager will provide direct, individualized guidance, coaching, and resources to first- and second-year college students and their volunteer mentors to support college persistence and success. In this role, the College & Career Success Manager will also play a role in enrolling college-bound high school students already engaged in BBBS of NYC’s programming in the College & Career Success program, centering the lifelong journeys of our Littles. The ideal candidate will have a firm belief in the power of mentoring, demonstrated experience working with first- and second-year college students, clear understanding of the barriers facing first generation college students, and experience with developing and facilitating relevant workshops to young adults related to college access, persistence, and success.  Additionally, the College & Career Success Program is an innovative and developing service delivery model at BBBS of NYC; the College & Career Success Manager will also strongly contribute to overall program design, implementation, management, and evaluation.  


 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Case Management & Facilitation  

  • Serve as a direct support to 150 currently enrolled first and second year college student program participants and their mentors to support college persistence and success  
  • Provide tailored, individualized coaching and guidance as well as deliver workshops and resources to the full group of Scholar & Mentor matches 
  • Maintain regular contact with mentorship matches to assess for strength of mentoring relationship; proactively address barriers and leverage both internal and external resources to support college success 
  • Co-facilitate Summer Transition Workshop Series for rising college freshmen and juniors 
  • Conduct college campus visits to provide direct support to current participants and facilitate group engagement sessions  

CCS Enrollment 

  • Lead meetings with incoming college freshman to enroll them into the College & Career Success program, including collecting financial aid information and assessing barriers to success for a smooth transition into college 
  • Drive and coordinate “match meetings” to introduce incoming College & Career Success scholars to their mentors, and provide an overview of the mentorship relationship expectations and support that will be provided throughout the program 

Data Tracking & Analysis 

  • Update records on a routine basis; assist with statistical reports, and demographic and outcome tracking. Input all survey data into database.  
  • Create and maintain department forms, financial expense forms, updates, and changes  
  • Contribute to the development of funding proposals and reports  

Innovation  

  • Support with development and implementation of new programs; build and optimize support structures for first- and second-year students and their mentors  
  • Contribute content for the College & Career Success Newsletter for scholars and mentors to promote resources, opportunities, and program engagement  
  • Lead the scholarship distribution process for BBBS of NYC Littles, including coordinating logistics and communication between college institutions, students, and BBBS of NYC staff, and completing expense forms for scholarship distribution in a timely manner 
  • Attend external meetings for professional associations and partnerships as needed   
Requirements

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Passion for the mission and values of BBBS of NYC; alignment with the organization’s values  
  • 3+ years’ experience working with college-bound seniors and first- and second-year college students in a formal college success program or in the college system; experience with college counseling and/or in the CUNY or SUNY system a plus  
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students in navigating college admissions, FAFSA, TAP, and other scholarships 
  • Track record of successfully supporting first and second year college students in navigating course registration and matriculation into college 
  • Experience engaging and managing adult volunteers; comfort building relationships with a variety of stakeholders  
  • Skilled facilitator comfortable delivering programming and curriculum to a diverse set of stakeholders both in-person and virtually  
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; understanding of the institutional and systemic barriers to success faced by first generation college students  
  • Knowledge of CASEL SEL framework, positive youth development principles and commitment to an asset based, trauma informed approach to working with young adults; understanding of adult learning frameworks  
  • Comfortability working in a start-up environment, and innovating to build systems, evaluate programs and creatively solve problems  
  • Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, & Outlook; Microsoft Teams & SharePoint, and Zoom; Experience using customer service data management tools a plus  

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: 

  •  Salary Range: $54,000 - $56,000 annually
