Description
Job Summary: The Mechanical Engineer II will focus on product development, design, and production support, emphasizing innovation and reliability in energy solutions. The Mechanical Engineer II should have experience in mechanical design and testing, product lifecycle management, and cross-functional collaboration, and will be instrumental in transitioning designs from prototypes to full production.
Responsibilities:
- Lead design and development efforts for mechanical components and systems, with a focus on reliability and manufacturability.
- Create and maintain SolidWorks models and detailed technical drawings.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure accurate and functional designs.
- Create parts, bill of materials (BOMs) and routers in ERP/MRP systems (NetSuite experience preferred).
- Utilize PDM systems for managing design documents and data (Product Center experience preferred).
- Create detailed work instructions, training materials, and procedure sheets for production teams, ensuring smooth transition of products to manufacturing.
- Design and conduct validation and verification testing for electromechanical and pneumatic systems.
- Prototype, test, and iterate designs, transitioning products from initial concept through first article builds and into production.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing principles such as waste elimination, 5S, standard work, and value stream mapping to optimize production processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to meet project timelines and support process improvements.
- Create product specifications, select raw materials, and oversee component procurement for production.
- Provide technical documentation and assist in project management for various engineering projects.
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (required); Master’s degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing (experience in a manufacturing plant is preferred).
- Proven experience with SolidWorks (required).
- Familiarity with NetSuite, Product Center, or equivalent ERP and PDM systems.
- Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems and compressed air pneumatic systems (preferred).
- Experience with lean manufacturing, change management, and transitioning designs to production.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of GD&T and manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects, ideally with project management experience.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical data clearly.
- Ability to build prototypes and oversee validation processes.
Work Environment:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to access and inspect all areas of machinery.
