Vala’s Pumpkin Patch & Apple Orchard is hiring a Seasonal Maintenance Mechanic to assist in maintaining attractions and farm vehicles. Located in Gretna, Nebraska, Vala’s is one of the largest pick-your-own pumpkin patches in the world, spanning 400+ acres and including over 50 attractions.

The ideal candidate for this position will have two (2) years of experience in small engine work and/or other mechanical specialties. Preferably, this candidate will have experience with operating and servicing amusement rides. Knowledge of welding, metal work, basic hydraulics, basic electronics and/or construction is a plus. The mechanic will maintain a professional and positive culture throughout the company. This candidate will be a resourceful problem solver with experience utilizing a variety of equipment, machines, and farm vehicles.

Responsibilities:

As a Mechanic, you will be assigned a variety of maintenance tasks throughout the farm under the direction of the Head Mechanic. You will work on attractions, like the train and pedal cars, performing general maintenance and repairs. You will inspect, trouble-shoot, repair and test vehicles utilized on the farm by both visitors and staff. This position will complete preventative maintenance such as but not limited to oil changes, lubrications, tire and wheel maintenance. You will maintain quality and safety throughout the farm, ensuring all rides and vehicles are up to operational standard. 

• Perform routine and preventative maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment
• Perform quality control checks on equipment throughout the farm
• Inspect vehicles and equipment to diagnose issues accurately
• Assist the Head Mechanic with routine repairs and general maintenance
• Follow Safety Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures
• Document maintenance work performed accurately and in a timely manner
• Repair and/or replace parts and components for maximum reliability
• Maintain equipment and tools in good operating condition
• Additional job duties may be assigned based on business needs

Requirements:

• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Demonstrated ability to work quickly and efficiently
• Knowledge of vehicle and equipment components, diagnostics, and repairs
• Valid driver’s license 
• Ability to lift, push and pull 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently
• Able to walk, stand, reach and bend for extended periods 
• Able to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions based on business needs and time of year
