The Compliance Consultant will be responsible for supporting the Compliance Team. Under the direction of the Manager of Compliance Services, the Consultant plays a critical role in ensuring that our clients adhere to regulatory requirements and internal policies related to healthcare practices. This position involves monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing compliance processes to mitigate risk and promote a culture of ethical behavior for our customer’s organizations.
The Consultant will dedicate 80-95% of their time working directly with Clearwater clients performing billable services. The remainder of time should be focused on authoring blogs, creating and delivering team and/or customer educational presentations, earning/retaining relevant professional certifications, networking with other professionals and participating in relevant professional organizations and events.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Compliance Consultant Key Responsibilities:
· Deliver Professional Service engagements to Clearwater clients based on contracted Statements of Work (“SOW(s)”), any relevant customer policies, Clearwater-defined templates and delivery processes and Clearwater standards of service
· Developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures to guide clients on how to comply with laws and regulations, including but not limited to: HIPAA, 21st Century Cures Act, GDPR, state law requirements, and others
· Conducting compliance risk assessments and ensuring appropriate controls are in place and implement controls to mitigate those risks
· Monitoring and auditing compliance activities to help ensure our clients are consistently adhering to laws and regulations
· Providing training to individuals on compliance requirements, specific requirements, and best practices
· Investigating and addressing compliance breaches to include root cause analysis, taking appropriate action, and implement measures to prevent future breaches
· Collaborating with executive leadership, legal teams and regulatory bodies to ensure our clients stay updated on changes in laws and regulations and ensure compliance with them
In support of the overall company growth:
· Deliver Professional Service engagements to Clearwater clients based on contracted Statements of Work (“SOW(s)”), any relevant customer policies, Clearwater-defined templates and delivery processes and Clearwater standards of service
· Achieve utilization targets, complete projects on time and budget, and meet quality standards
· Provide support, planning, scheduling, project set up, and project management for assigned engagements and lend backup support and assistance as required and/or requested by members of the professional services team
Accomplish position duties and objectives:
o Guided by colleagues, exercising a great deal of own initiative to read, study, ask questions and learn Clearwater’s solution and service offerings, sales process, marketing materials, contract and SOW structure, methodologies, delivery standards, work tools and processes
o Attend and assist Clearwater colleagues with currently-booked projects
- Develop and continuously improve tools and templates used in delivering customer engagements and training subcontracted resources
- Participate and present in Clearwater educational and promotional activities and events such as delivery of educational webinars, customer council meetings, and the like
- Assist with other assignments befitting skill, knowledge and experience set
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
· Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/or Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) certification
· Minimum three (3) years of related compliance experience in a healthcare setting
· Experience spotting compliance issues, analyzing information, identifying issues or concerns in fact patterns
· Experience applying laws and policy standards in investigation or fact-finding processes
· Ability to define problems, collect data, ascertain facts, and draw valid conclusions based on evidence
· Ability to extract, verify, compile and develop recommendations related to compliance and privacy programs, issues, policies and procedures
· Excellent analytical and writing skills resulting in accurate and useful reports and/or summaries
· Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally for presentation to or review by leadership
· Ability to interview and elicit cooperation and confidence of interviewees to obtain relevant information, interpret responses, and determine relevant facts
· Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including Clearwater personnel
· Demonstrated experience in critical decision making and reasoning ability
· Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult, sensitive and/or volatile situations/individuals effectively
· Strong project management skills including planning, overseeing progress to ensure timely completion, and communicating progress to stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, & KNOWLEDGE
· A working knowledge of:
o The HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules
o U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, General Compliance Guidance and the U.S. Department of Justice Criminal Division Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Program. Federal Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Federal regulations to include but not limited to Federal Anti-Kickback Statute, Physician self-referral Law, False Claims Act, Civil Monetary Penalty Authorities Exclusion Authorities, Criminal Health Care Fraud Statute, and others
· The initiative and ability to:
o
o Digest SOWs, prior customer proposals, project notes, deliverables, and final reports; assimilate prior experience, relevant subject matter, data, facts, and results; and develop relevant questions of colleagues to hasten understanding scenarios, methodologies, processes, and “lessons learned”
o Interact with colleagues to devise and carry out an effective self-training program
o Study, earn and retain relevant additional professional certifications; network with other professionals, participate in relevant professional organizations and events
o Author blogs, create and deliver team and/or Customer educational presentations

o Read and readily comprehend Federal and State regulations, compliance and/or privacy policies and procedures, and assess their relevance to specific situations
o Pose questions and listen to customer responses effectively to draw out essential facts, data, business process descriptions, sensitivities, and perspectives
o Strong organizational abilities, effective writing skills, and communications skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT
· Clearwater is an entirely “virtual” company and all colleagues work remotely
· Work remotely with a Clearwater provided work computer
· Provide own printer/scanner, computer audio capability, cell phone, and Internet service
· Company provides subscriptions to Salesforce.com, Basecamp, Microsoft On-Line Services, Encryption tools, Data backup, Zoom and Microsoft TEAMs Meeting, and other tools selected as standard by the Company
· Travel is required an estimated 40 – 50% of the time
