Description

The Medical Billing Specialist submits daily Snoqualmie Behavioral Health bills, tracks and follows up on outstanding claims, receives payments and provides collection of outstanding patient debts. 


Essential Duties:

  • Identify and resolve billing issues by interfacing with insurance companies and appealing denied claims as needed.
  • Track and follow up on outstanding and past due patient accounts. 
  • Assist patients with payment plan or determine if referral to collections agency is needed. 
  • Identify and resolve patient billing complaints.
  • Read and analyze patient records. 
  • Determine the correct codes for patient records 
  • Interact with providers to ensure accuracy and resolve documentation and/or coding issues.
  • Manage complex patient accounts payable/receivable database to ensure the timely payment of patient accounts. 
  • Assist daily with processing fee tickets from medical providers to maintain revenue for Health and Wellness department. 
  • Accurately bill insurance companies and post payments received.
  • Maintain and update patient information files, and enter data into RPMS.
  • Review patient accounts for possible assignment and referral to PRC and Billing Manager for follow up.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist supervisor with reports, past due research and documentation including other requests as needed.
  • Assist with program planning, policy development, Medicaid outreach and referral and/or interagency coordination related to Medicaid and non-Medicaid covered services.
  • Perform backup administrative duties for medical billing as assigned.
  • Provide backup documentation for grants/contracts.

Requirements
  • Knowledge of basic medical coding, medical terminology, credentialing processes, and third-party operating procedures and practices required. 
  • Strong problem solving skills, particularly regarding medical billing regulatory obligations. 
  • Strong organizational skills and accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to monitor and prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills and written and verbal communication. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse populations in a courteous, helpful, and clearly understood manner.
  • Knowledge of Native cultures, history, and traditions preferred.
  • Communicate with tact and discretion while maintaining a high level of confidentiality in line with HIPAA and related regulations and policies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. Experience with RPMS preferred.
  • Ability to type 50 wpm required; 10-key by touch required.

Education & Experience:

Education Required:  

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • One or more years’ work experience in medical billing, coding, and collection practices (ICD-10 and CPT) required.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Certified Medical Coder preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation. 
  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.

Additional Information:

  • Hourly, compensation will be determined based on experience and starts at $24.30 per hour.
  • This position is a regular full-time position and employment is at will.
