A Day in the Life of a Graphic Designer
You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative visual solutions for challenging communications across digital publications, slide decks, websites, and in-person engagement events. You will be part of a talented team producing graphically compelling plans, reports, and infographics that help our clients build safer, more vibrant communities. There may be opportunities in brand development, signage design, illustration, and/or web design for the right candidate. You will support highly skilled technical staff to produce documents and displays that present information in a format that is clear and easy to understand.
Your designs will support the firm’s mission to give people safe, comfortable, and accessible options for getting where they need to go, and we push ourselves and our clients to proactively think about equity every step of the way.

We are targeting a salary range of $59,000.00 to $70,000.00 for this position.
Work Schedule for a Graphic Designer:
This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. Toole Design’s Minneapolis office is conveniently located downtown at 212 3rd Avenue N, near to the Mississippi River and Cedar Lake bike trail systems and within walking distance from Metro Blue, Green, Orange, and C line Stations. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit. Located in the North Loop neighborhood in the historic Colonial Warehouse building, the office is inside the former headquarters of the city’s streetcar company. Our windows overlook the Cedar Lake Trail, which most of our staff use to bike to work each day, sometimes with a canine in tow (our building is dog-friendly). You will also find Minneapolis staff conducting “walking meetings” to the nearby Mississippi River, taking transit nearly anywhere in the region, or hopping on bike share to attend meetings. Qualifications of a Graphic Designer:
- Expert typography, layout, and information design skills
- Degree in graphic design preferred or equivalent relevant graphic design experience in lieu of a degree
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience, specifically in graphic design positions (including internships)
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Proficiency with any of the following would be an asset: illustration, web design, 3D design, cartography, or GIS
- Ability to work on a PC operating system
- Ability to manage your time independently
