Incoming Inspection is responsible for the inspection of all receipts at QVI except optical and electronic components. This is a critical function as the first check point for supplier quality. Additionally, the department provides inspection services for the floor when there are questionable issues and oversees the gauges used by the company. The Incoming Quality Control Inspector 2 works with a high level of independence and contributes to inspections of incoming material that is mechanical in nature, received from both external and internal suppliers, formally rejected by assemblers, or returned from the field.
Role and Responsibilities:
· Inspects incoming mechanical materials thoroughly.
· Utilizes Quality Control processes, sampling systems, and procedures to ensure part conformance to specifications.
· Ensures QVI IQC product specifications and standards are achieved and maintained.
· Maintains detailed and accurate record keeping practices.
· Accepts or rejects parts that are purchased externally or manufactured within the corporation.
· Works independently and provides guidance and mentorship as needed to Level I inspectors
· Achieves proficiency with the QVI Calibration System and performs basic instrument calibrations.
· Other related duties or tasks assigned by management.
· High School Diploma required. Associate or bachelor’s Degree in a manufacturing or quality related field preferred.
· 5-7 years’ experience in a quality control environment specific to manufacturing.
· Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems preferred.
· Familiarity with QVI products preferred.
· Ability to read mechanical drawings, sometimes often of a complex nature.
· Advanced knowledge of part requirements with very close tolerances - Typical +/-.005mm (+/- .0002 inch.) and proficiency of both metric and English systems.
· Good written and verbal communication skills as well as effective interaction with team members and with other departments.
· Commitment to being a team player with a flexible, positive, adaptive approach to resolving problems or changes.
· Working understanding in computer software products such as: Microsoft Excel and Word.
· Proficiency in the use of a CMM, Vision systems, calipers, micrometers, plug/thread gages, etc.
· Working knowledge with machining practices and sheet metal components.
· Working knowledge of GD&T.
· Basic understanding of machining practices preferred.
Physical and/or Environmental Requirements:
· Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time.
· Ability to independently and safely move materials utilizing a pallet jack, work cart, etc. Visual acuity and manual hand dexterity are needed to operate said tools.
· Ability to lift material up to 50 pounds as needed.
· Ability to manually handle and transfer material parts to and from inspection operations.
