The New World's Reading Initiative Events Team Member will support community literacy events and parent-family workshops associated with the YMCA of Southwest Florida’s partnership with University of Florida’s New World's Reading Initiative. The role is flexible and hourly, providing assistance during special events designed to promote literacy and parental engagement in children’s reading development.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The New World's Reading Initiative Events Team Member will support community literacy events and parent-family workshops associated with the YMCA of Southwest Florida’s partnership with University of Florida’s New World's Reading Initiative. The role is flexible and hourly, providing assistance during special events designed to promote literacy and parental engagement in children’s reading development.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Assist with event setup and takedown, ensuring smooth operations.

•Manage the registration table, welcoming and checking in participants.

•Assist with food distribution, serving, and clean-up.

•Facilitate literacy-based activities for children, helping to engage them in fun, educational experiences.

•Support supervision of children while parents attend New World's Reading Initiative presentations.

•Act as a “read-aloud” leader, reading stories to groups of children during events.

•Provide additional on-site support as needed to ensure successful event execution.


QUALIFICATIONS:

•Experience working with children and families preferred.

•Strong communication and organizational skills.

•Ability to adapt to different roles during events.

•Enthusiasm for literacy and community engagement.

•Availability to work flexible, as-needed hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Will need to adequate transportation to travel from event site to event site.


CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

•Infant/child CPR & First Aid.

•Annual completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens training.

•Annual completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.



WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

•Regularly required to sit, kneel, or stand for extended periods.

•Must be able to move around the work environment.

•Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

•Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

Salary Description
18.00 to 22.00 per hour
