Description
The Supportive Housing Assistant will perform a variety of duties, that support the operations and success of the Bergen County Supportive Housing Program. The Supportive Housing Assistant will assist persons served in identifying and obtaining various resources, make appropriate referrals and provide follow up, collaborate with all necessary community partners, provide direct support to the Supportive Housing Coordinator, assist with various applications, completing of records/documentation, data entry, and other duties as requested
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Connect persons served to essential health and social services in the community.
- Assess persons served needs and provide information and community referrals including clothing, food, shelter, housing services, rental assistance, general assistance, etc.
- Promote wellness, recovery, and community integration as foundation concepts for Wellness and Recovery philosophy and activities.
- Stays abreast of community resources available to assist persons served through financial, healthcare, educational and other services that may be needed.
Part-time | 12 hours p/w| NJESL Eligible
Hourly Rate: $20.00
Requirements
- High School diploma / GED with 2 years of mental health experience OR College degree in a mental health discipline.
- Excellent verbal communication, writing, assessment skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability and willingness to work in partnership with staff to promote an integrated services environment.
- Knowledge of community resources and how to access them.
- Experience with real estate and knowledge of State and local housing regulations.
- Ability to make and maintain contacts and positive relationships with individuals who receive or have received mental health and/or substance abuse services.
- Willingness to disclose current or prior use of mental health and/or addiction services and speak openly on aspects of their individual recovery.
- Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) OR Proficient in Excel, MS Office products, as well as general computer literacy.
- Bilingual skills are preferred / a plus.
- Valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Lived Experience: CSPNJ prioritizes hiring people who use their own life experience dealing with mental health/substance use issues to inspire and support others.
