Position Summary:

Barber-Nichols is seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and energetic candidate for the Barber-Nichols Apprenticeship Program. This program is a clear career path to a Certified Machinist Journeyman through the State of Colorado’s Department of Labor. The apprentice will experience 6000 on the job learning hours and 675 hours of related classroom instruction at Warren Tech. There is a probationary period of 1000 hours or one year, whichever is shorter. The apprentice will complete three rotations throughout the 6000 hours providing experience with Tooling, CNC Lathe, CNC Mill, and CNC Grinding. These rotations will allow for the apprentice to earn 47 competency-based skills and be evaluated per a rotational grading expectation in which the apprentice improves their competencies throughout each rotation.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in rotational on the job training which will focus on setup and operation of 2 axis CNC horizontal lathes, 3, 4, and 5 axis CNC mills, and CNC cylindrical grinders.
  • Participate in rotational on the job training which will focus on tool room operations including setup and application of tooling for CNC machining.
  • Machines production components with guidance and oversight of skilled machinists.
  • Measures, inspects, and documents required dimensions and attributes of production work completed while participating in the rotational program.
  • Saws, stages, and moves materials as required for shop operation.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Physically capable of performing the essential functions of the occupation with or without reasonable accommodation that will not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.
  • Has completed one year of machinist classroom learning from Warren Tech and be enrolled at Warren Tech for their second year.
  • Submit to Drug Testing and background check conducted post selection but pre-employment.

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is primarily required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend. Required to speak and communicate clearly with others. Will need to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Corrected vision to 20/20 or adequate and ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to read, write, analyze data and reports, exercise judgment, develop plans, procedures and goals, present information to others and work under pressure.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to high level of manufacturing and equipment noise. Duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment with temperature changes. Exposure to hazardous materials, fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts with vibration.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting pay for this role is $22.00, This range represent the anticipated minimum and maximum base + bonus for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant’s qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances
