Responsible for the overall day-to-day medication administration and care programs in assisted living and memory care. Serve as a liaison between residents, family, and physician on individual health care issues. Support the Director of Nursing with the supervision of all LPN/Resident Assistant and hiring, training, evaluating and termination. Ensure proper sanitation and quality of care. As the Assistant Director of Nursing, you are an appointed designee in the event the Executive Director is off-site. You are also required to participate in the manager-on-duty program and work the floor as necessary.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

• As a member of the management team, you are our consultant on medical matters, medications, and
annual staff/resident licensing requirements.
• Assist the Director of Nursing with the hiring, training and supervision of LPN and Resident
Assistant personnel, design and implement a continuous training schedule for departmental
employees.
• Assist with the development of staff schedules and assignments and payroll functions for the
department.
• Perform the initial and ongoing resident assessments including physical, emotional, and mental
status.
• Ensure that proper Universal Precautions are practiced for resident and staff safety.
• Manage Medication Administration Program in coordination. Perform or supervise medication
check-in when delivered by pharmacy.
• Check monthly Physician Order Sheets for accuracy. Supervise MAR updates.
• Supervise to ensure confidentiality of resident information.
• Initiates the development with the Assistant Nursing Director, of the initial and on- going
Negotiated Service Plan.
• Coordinate reassessments and care plan development.
• Supervise and ensure that resident care and treatments are performed as scheduled.
• Serve as a liaison between residents, family, and physician on individual health care
issues.
• Assist with the development of a Wellness Program, which is pro-active and seeks to identify
trends and prevent and/or minimize a change of condition.
• Ensure resident quality of care, provide Quality Assurance/Utilization Review monitoring to
ensure a high level of accuracy and communication.
• Coordinate services of outside agencies providing health care or other assistance to residents
including Home Health Agencies, Physical Therapists, Hospice, Laboratories, Durable Medical
Equipment.
• Assist with resident care and physical support. This may include assistance after a fall,
assistance from the bed, bath or shower, assistance with toileting, assistance during an emergency
evacuation, etc.
• Manage orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart, medication rooms, medication, and
specimen refrigerators. Order/restock medications as needed. Discard out of date medications.
• Document in resident’s progress notes any change in status.
• Assist with providing training for all new staff orientations and monthly LPN and Resident
Assistant in-services.
• Assist with the management of departmental budget within published financial
guidelines.
• Maintain all equipment in a clean and safe manner.
• Attend all mandatory management meetings and lead weekly resident assessment and care plan
meetings.
• Respond and assist with any resident, staff, guest, or community emergency.
• Assist with special events as needed.
• Maintain a professional appearance as described in the uniform policy.
• Report any unusual incidents to the Executive Director/General Manager or Manager on
Duty.
• Maintain a professional caring approach when dealing with residents, families, staff, visitors,
vendors and the general public.
• Participate in the Manager on Duty Program.
• Any other duties as required by the Executive Director, Director of Nursing, General Manager or
Manager on Duty.
