Overview:

The Business Unit Controller is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations within a business unit. This role ensures the integrity of financial reporting, is a key contributor for consolidated financial statements, supports strategic decision-making, and ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Controller will lead the finance function within the business unit, direct the compliance with company processes and procedures, manage accounting operations, assist in the development of financial policies, and collaborate cross-functionally to support the company’s growth and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial      Reporting and Analysis:
    • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reporting for the business unit (to include business unit performance reporting and business unit income statement, balance sheet and cash flow performance reporting).
    • In support of the overall business goals and direction, support the development of and manage financial reporting for forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses.
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management to inform business decisions.
  • Accounting      Operations:
    • At the direction of the Group Controller, supervise and lead the accounting function and assist in coordination and execution of accounting operations (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger).
    • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
    • Maintain the integrity of financial data and ensure compliance with accounting principles (GAAP) and internal policies.
    • Manage and improve accounting processes and internal controls, ensuring best practices and efficiencies.
  • Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:
    • Lead cost accounting efforts, providing insight into operational costs and profitability.
    • Collaborate with operations to monitor inventory levels, valuations, and cost control.
    • Analyze operational costs, overhead allocations, and pricing strategies to ensure profitability targets are met.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance:
    • Develop, implement, and monitor internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and filing requirements.
    • Coordinate and support external audits, providing necessary and timely documentation and responses.
  • Financial      Strategy & Leadership:
    • Partner with the Group Controller, CFO and other executives to develop long-term financial strategies to support growth and operational goals.
    • Monitor key financial and operational metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
    • Provide financial leadership during business initiatives such as expansions, acquisitions, or new product launches.
  • Team Development & Leadership:
    • Mentor and develop finance team members where applicable, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Ensure team members are trained and up to date on the latest financial practices, accounting standards, and relevant regulations.
    • Drive collaboration between finance, manufacturing, and facility service teams to support business objectives.
Requirements

  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within manufacturing or facility services.
  • Proven ability to collaborate within a business unit and shared services with regard to the larger organization’s financial functions.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Expertise in cost accounting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and provide financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a manufacturing or facility services organization.
  • Understanding of project-based accounting, especially related to facility management services and driving business profitability.
  • Experience in managing operational cash flow, particularly around working capital management.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
