Summary. As instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, professor of nursing, this position is responsible for teaching both major and non-major courses, advising, engaging in scholarly activity, and conducting committee work as assigned. This assignment is scheduled to begin January 2, 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Teaches courses within the Nursing Department with a total load of up to twenty-seven hours.
- Serves as academic advisor for program majors.
- Participates in student recruitment and promotion.
- Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum using a written plan.
- Plans and provides theoretical instruction and clinical or laboratory experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives and curriculum of the Nursing program and nursing profession.
- Evaluates student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice.
- Maintains 10 office hours per week for student availability.
- Schedules administrative time for classroom, laboratory, and clinical preparation.
- Works with the department chair and other departmental faculty to develop, implement, evaluate, and update the purpose, philosophy, objectives and organizational framework of the Nursing program.
- Works with the department chair and other departmental faculty to develop, evaluate and revise student admission, progression, retention and graduation policies within the Department of Nursing.
- Engages in scholarly research or other creative achievement activity.
- Serves on university committees as assigned.
- Attends daily chapel.
- Conducts servant leadership in the community.
- Abides by all University policies governing behavior and in fulfillment of job requirements.
- May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
- Must hold an earned MSN (PhD, DNP preferred) or for clinical instructor role, BSN with clinical expertise in basic nursing and their area of specialty (i.e. Adult Health, Women’s Health, Pediatrics, Mental Health, Nursing Management).
- At least two years of full-time professional nursing clinical experience.
- Two years, preferred, of full-time teaching experience in a nursing program.
- Hold a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Tennessee, or be eligible to obtain a Tennessee Registered Nurse license.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support.
Language Skills
Ability to effectively lecture in a classroom environment. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, faculty, administrators and parents.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate descriptive and predictive statistics.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate computer proficiency in the following areas: spreadsheet software, word processing software, presentation software, statistical software and other software that may increase productivity and efficiency. An individual must also demonstrate a willingness to learn and use new software related to functional responsibilities.
