JOB SUMMARY: Performs manual and machine operator tasks and execute the setup, maintenance, and operation of the T485 VIT Finishing Lines.


JOB DUTIES:

  1. Responsible for overall inline press operation, product quality, routine maintenance, and housekeeping.
  2. Responsible for completion of each order as specified on the job ticket.
  3. Analyze job ticket for best method to set up and run orders, check layout, and job specifications.
  4. Check with prior shift for any press or running problems, communicate the same to incoming shift.
  5. Check press log and shift change notes for information about the press and job that is running.
  6. Manage, organize, and inform crew members of steps required to set up and run a particular order.
  7. Monitor and inform crew members of routine maintenance required on the press.
  8. Set up the rotary cutter and in line to the correct size of the finished product that is required by order specs.
  9. Able to achieve and where possible exceed target net production rates per job specifications.
  10. Keep the area clean and safe throughout the shift.
  11. Able to train any level setup personnel in new areas of expertise.
  12. Be able to safely remove a jam from equipment without risk or injury or damage to the equipment.
  13. Know how to safely power up/down the equipment.
  14. Be effective at communicating requirements with other team members, supervision, and maintenance.
  15. Run product to sample quality and have shift supervisor approve samples, route sample count to Q/C.
  16. Check output against the blueline for proper construction, secure approval of reader copies from layout.
  17. Assist in recovery from web breaks, breakdowns, or other problems, provide guidance to maintenance.
  18. Inform maintenance of needed repairs using a maintenance request form.
  19. Ensure that all safety mechanisms are in place and functioning and that PPE is used by all crew members.
  20. Stop and start counter, monitor product quality being saved, along with load tickets, labels, and counts.
  21. Monitor and/or assist in roller replacements, adjustments, or other items of a complex nature.
  22. Inspect and help maintain all press systems and auxiliary equipment.
  23. Assist in press paper web up on make-ready and at web breaks, assist with breakdown repairs.
  24. Assist in keeping the press work area clean.
  25. Monitor register, color, folds, glue, die cuts, perfs, and other specs and adjust as needed.
  26. Inspect time stamps and insure they are pulled at proper intervals.
  27. Duty to learn latest industry improvements, technology, and changes to maintain expert skills.
  28. Other duties as may be assigned by shift supervisor or plant superintendent.
Requirements

 

JOB SKILLS: * Basic math, measurement, mechanical, statistical process control, communication, interpersonal, and problem solving. Proper use of hand and portable power tools. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. 


JOB KNOWLEDGE: * Complete understanding of workflow, laws, regulations and policies, printing press operations, printing system components, printing instruments and tools and printing substrates and materials.

EDUCATION & TRAINING: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Trade, vocational, and equipment manufacturer training. Safety training as required by OSHA regulations, operation of Segerdahl Data Collection System, and all documents used at press. On-the-job training for operation, set-up and maintenance of all press systems, auxiliary equipment and in-line equipment.


EXPERIENCE: Five to ten years in a web printing facility. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift 50 pounds. Able to stand for eight to twelve hours daily. Must possess full range of motor/motion skills in all body areas.
