Reports To: Laurie Stamp, Learning Experience Manager 

Salary Range: $65,000 - $70,000

FLSA Status: non-exempt 


About the Organization:

African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) is a culturally rooted, community-founded organization led by visionary Black women and a community Board of Directors. ACHD works towards an informed African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community engaged in the holistic development of families, communities, and the environment. ACHD focuses on equitable and culturally relevant health, legal, and educational services; housing stability and economic growth; and land-use, real estate, and property development. ACHD staff speak 13 languages, and over 80% identify as Black or People of Color.


Job Summary:

The Learning Experience Supervisor will work closely with the rest of the education team to deliver vibrant, culturally relevant educational programs for African Diaspora youth in King County. Our education programs provide a unique, holistic approach to STEAM education that integrates SEL, outdoors and academics to prepare students for the future that they will create. The ideal Learning Experience Supervisor is an educator who is ready to collaborate with their students through the learning process. This position will also require an educator who is comfortable in informal educational settings, particularly the outdoors, and is passionate about equity and justice.


Duties & Responsibilities:

· Collaborate with the Learning Experience Manager on building curriculum

· Maintain teaching materials and tools

· Lead/teach education program classes and field trips

· Transport students safely in company van to field trip destinations

· Check-in and check-out students from programs according to ACHD policy

· Collaborate with Community Liaisons to communicate with caregivers

· Complete reports as assigned by the Learning Experience Manager and/or Community Engagement Manager

· Participate in professional development to enhance skillset

· Ensure participant physical and emotional safety in outdoor contexts

· Demonstrate stewardship and a love for the outdoors

· Represent ACHD at various functions

Direct Reports:  

· This position will supervise up to 3 members of the Education Department

Requirements

 

Required Qualifications:

· 2-3 years’ experience educating in outdoor contexts

· Comfort with both lead and team teaching elementary-aged students

· Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines

· Strong verbal communication and writing skills

· Experience applying differentiated classroom and behavior management techniques

· Competence in creating safe, culturally relevant, anti-racist, and age appropriate social-emotional teaching spaces

· Experience working respectfully with diverse communities, including non-English speakers

· Enthusiasm for STEAM education


Preferred Qualifications:

· Fluency in an African language 

· Master’s degree in education or a related field
