Alaska Northstar Resources is seeking a qualified candidate for a Network Engineer II role to our team at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD.
This full-time position offers a hybrid remote schedule with occasional travel between IT support facilities at APG and may be required to work additional hours as deemed necessary for adequate deliverable care of services.
This position under minimal direction, serves as a technical lead for networking engineering projects and services and provides technical oversight for the application of and compliance with DCPH-A technical standards.
The Network Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- Switch configuration.
- Troubleshooting ports/protocols with protocol analyzer.
- Troubleshooting 802.1x authentication issues and dynamic VLAN allocation using Cisco ISE.
- Solid understanding of OSI model and how it relates to real world troubleshooting.
- Supporting wireless infrastructure.
- Familiarity with datacenter communication equipment/infrastructure.
- Troubleshooting routing issues.
- Windows application understanding and troubleshooting.
- Assist in the support, configuration, and sustainment of all site networking activities including data center layouts, hardware configurations and inter-building connectivity.
- Support all technical phases of networking system sustainment.
- Perform daily data center operations and checks to ensure uptime and upkeep of all data center IT equipment, reporting all issues to IMD government management.
- Manage operations and lifecycle support, including but not limited to software upgrade requirements, outages, capacity planning, rack and floor space management, server management, and logical access controls management.
- Formulate logical designs of system problems, devise and implement procedures for solutions to those problems.
- Complete and maintain operational and technical documentation.
- Provides technical oversight for the application of and compliance with DCPH-A technical standards.
- Provides guidance and training for complex networking issues to less experienced team members.
- Support all technical phases of networking system sustainment.
- Provides project work order tracking/regular updates and completes status reports, problem reports, and progress summaries.
- Other duties as assigned.
Candidate must be US Citizen
Candidate must have active DoD Secret Clearance at minimum.
Candidate must possess an active Security+ or other DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II
Candidate must possess an active CCNA
Candidate must have an active MCSA or MCSE or obtain Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate within 60 days of hire date.
Candidate must have 5+ years experience with the following:
- Hands-on technical experience with supporting the networking side of an IT environment. This experience should directly relate to and demonstrate the skillsets required to obtain the CCNA and Microsoft certifications required for the position.
Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or other business-related field.
- Capable of providing the appropriate physical and technical protection of the backup and restoration hardware, firmware, configuration information and software.
- Expertise in developing and executing disaster recovery procedures.
- Skilled in ensuring all Windows environments are fully operational, secure, within capacity and maintain redundancy.
- Trained to provide technical support and recommended technical solutions to the government and less skilled team members in support of this initiative.
- Skilled at all technical phases of networking system sustainment.
- Capable of documenting and implementing new and ongoing business processes that specify special handling procedures for excluded systems to minimize risk to critical mission processes.
- Equipped to provide operational support for all LAN hardware (routers and switches) and software, including connectivity between the network devices and segments.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical issues
- Proficiency in English
- Excellent communication skills
- Customer-oriented and cool-tempered
Work Environment
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Occasional business travel may be required. Only requested and approved expenses will be covered by ANR.
