Linda Hall Library, one of the world’s foremost independent research libraries devoted to science, engineering, and technology, is seeking a Graphic Design Intern to support the Library’s Exhibition team.
Schedule and Duration
- Spring 2025
- 90 hours a semester, flexible schedule.
- Paid internship at $15.00 an hour
PURPOSE
Reporting to the Vice President of Exhibitions and Project Management and working closely with the Exhibition’s Visual Designer, the Graphic Design Intern will play a key role in supporting the Library’s 2025 fall exhibition and related projects. The Graphic Design Intern will gain professional hands-on experience with various graphic design processes and production, along with the opportunity to create engaging visual experiences for diverse audiences and stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with project team members to understand the defined goals and intent behind the tasks.
- Research and Documentation: Assist in developing the inspiration and logic (reference images and mood boards) behind the project's design and narrative.
- Design Creation and Development: Develop engaging and creative designs that meet the defined objectives and directions. Projects/tasks could include concept ideation, asset creation for upcoming exhibitions, planning and design of informational graphics, and design layouts for upcoming publications.
- Feedback and Revisions: Incorporate feedback from the Vice President of Exhibitions and Project Management and the Exhibition’s Visual Designer to improve clarity and impact.
- Additional Responsibilities: Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned or requested to develop and advance the design.
- Must be a Junior or Senior currently enrolled in a relevant degree program.
- Demonstrated understanding of design principles, including typography, color theory, and layout design.
- Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign is essential.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
WORK LOCATION AND CONDITIONS
This position is based in a traditional office environment and requires working onsite. Occasionally, work will be conducted in public-facing spaces, fabrication studios, and construction areas. Other environmental factors may include:
- Occasional background noise from conversations and activities, which can vary throughout the day.
