Art Technician is a flex position that supports maintenance of the artwork as well as customer facing Gallery Attendant duties. This position will work with the Art and Maintenance Supervisor and the Art Tech Lead on a daily basis to ensure the galleries and collections are up to exhibition standards. Duties for art and maintenance include, but not limited to, daily cleaning and basic maintenance for the artwork and collections in the exhibition as per the Art and Maintenance Supervisor’s and Art Tech Lead instructions. The Art Technician will also do daily data entry and reporting with varying word documents and excel logs, organizing cleaning supplies and tools, and supporting the Art and Maintenance Supervisor and Art Tech Lead on special projects, and other duties as assigned.
This position will also support the Gallery Attendant team in the galleries during operational hours by acting in as an attendant daily, when needed, and roaming in the galleries to ensure the safety of the artwork. Gallery Attendant duties also include meeting guests in a warm, friendly manner, answering guest questions, and providing them information about the exhibition, Dale Chihuly, and other Seattle area points of interest.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Work closely with the Art and Maintenance Supervisor and the Art Tech Lead to develop and execute daily, monthly and annual cleaning routines of the galleries, garden artwork and collections.
- Support the Art and Maintenance Supervisor and Art Tech Lead in the care and maintenance of artwork, collections, supplies, lighting, standards, and other special projects.
- Daily dusting and cleaning of glass artwork, collections, and dusting and cleaning of plexiglass.
- Organize and maintain the art maintenance supply closets.
- Daily data entry and reporting via computer and paperwork.
- Support seasonal projects relating to the building and operations, i.e. holidays, garden, etc.
- Assist with programming and departmental functions as needed.
- Work with other departments on supporting the standards and expectations of the artwork and collections.
- Assisting in the exhibition including greeting guests, maintaining guest guideline standards, protecting artwork and answering questions
- Maintain working knowledge of all Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition policies and procedures
- Know Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition emergency and fire/life/safety procedures
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Working knowledge of museums, visual arts, and/or collection practices.
- Experience in art handling according to museum standards.
- Flexible weekday schedule and able to work evenings and or early mornings, along with working Saturdays with reliable transportation and commute.
- Proficient with computers and basic Microsoft software applications.
- Manual labor is required for this position including but not limited to - lifting, reaching, bending, loading, cleaning, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Ambulatory and able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable with heights. Ladder and lift experience required or willing to be trained.
- Comfortable working in a garden and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
- Experience working in a customer service-based team environment.
- Positive, professional, and upbeat attitude with team members and guests.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be able to work independently and as a team player with others.
- Ability to effectively communicate using the English language.
- Comfortable working with a diverse population and varied points of views
- Comfortable starting shifts as early as 6am.
- Comfortable ending shifts as late as 1am during summer hours.
Full Time, Hourly Position
Hourly Rate: $22.88 - 22.88 / hour
