Government Finance Officer’s Association is hiring an IT Intern. The IT Intern will work in the Chicago office around 20 hours a week. GFOA’s internship program provides an opportunity for undergraduates with an interest in pursuing a career in IT to develop network connections with GFOA members, and refine technical skills. Interns play a critical role in supporting various programs and services that GFOA offers.
Internship details may include but are not limited to:
Help Desk Support
- Learn to assist with Level 1 help desk support to staff, addressing basic technical issues related to software and hardware.
- Learn to assist users with troubleshooting common problems and provide guidance on using Office 365 applications.
Office 365 Suite Management
- Focus on utilizing Office 365 Suite to enhance collaboration and communication within the organization.
- Assist in setting up and managing Teams channels, meetings, and related functionalities.
AI Tools Research
- Explore and research various AI tools and technologies to determine their applicability and benefits for GFOA.
- Evaluate potential AI solutions for improving workflows and efficiency within the organization.
Mentorship and Career Development
- Engage in discussions to explore personal interests beyond assigned projects and gather insights on IT careers.
- Benefit from mentorship through sharing experiences and backgrounds in various IT areas to support career growth.

- Currently pursuing a career in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Office 365 applications, particularly Teams, including features like chat, meetings, and file sharing.
- Basic understanding of artificial intelligence tools and technologies is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with staff.
- Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to group projects and discussions.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and tools, particularly in the context of Office 365 and AI.
Work Environment
Onsite at the Chicago office, around 20 hours a week.
