Marketing Intern
Description

 

Government Finance Officer’s Association is currently hiring a Marketing Intern. The Communications/ Marketing Intern will work 20 hours or less a week. GFOA’s internship program provides an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in Marketing and gives the intern exposure to careers in an industry serving local governments to improve upon their knowledge/experience with public sector operations, develop network connections with GFOA members, and refine technical skills. Interns play a critical role in supporting various programs and services that GFOA offers.  


Internship details may include but are not limited to: 


Campaign Development 

  • Assist in the design and implementation of a marketing campaign around a specific event, from inception to execution. 
  • Collaborate with team members during regular meetings to align campaign goals with organizational objectives. 

Marketing Survey Analysis 

  • Assist with marketing surveys targeting members to gather feedback and insights. 
  • Assist with analyzing survey results. 
  • Contribute to the development of actionable recommendations based on survey insights to enhance member engagement.

Video Editing 

  • Assist with creation and editing of professional video commercial for use in webinars and eLearning events. 
  • Highlight key programs and initiatives across the organization in the video content. 

Conference 2026 Long-Term Planning 

  • Research past conference activities and strategies within the organization and analyze trends from similar organizations. 
  • Assist with development of a strategic plan for the 2026 conference, including recommendations for improvements and innovations. 

Team Collaboration 

  • Attend multiple meetings each week with the marketing team to discuss ongoing projects and initiatives. 
  • Provide feedback and input on a wide range of marketing efforts and strategies. 

Mentorship and Career Development 

  • Engage in discussions to explore personal interests beyond assigned projects and gather insights on marketing careers. 
  • Benefit from mentorship through sharing experiences and backgrounds in various marketing areas to support career growth.

Requirements

 

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field. 
  • Previous internship or work experience in marketing, communications, or a related area is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with campaign development and execution processes. 
  • Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar) is preferred. 
  • Experience with survey tools (e.g., SurveyMonkey, Google Forms) and data analysis is preferred. 
  • Analytical skills to interpret survey data and provide actionable insights. 
  • Ability to research industry trends and best practices for event planning. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in team settings. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to group discussions. 
  • Openness to feedback and willingness to provide constructive input on team projects. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple projects and deadlines. 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage time efficiently. 
  • Enthusiasm for learning and a proactive attitude toward career development. 
  • Willingness to engage in mentorship discussions and seek guidance. 
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and willingness to take on various tasks as needed. 

 

Work Environment 


Hybrid; in the Chicago office and remote, 20 hours or less a week.  


Physical Requirements


Work is performed in an office environment. Must be able to travel short distances within office. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.? 

Salary Description
$20-$25/hr
