Description
The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for providing general legal advice to business units and functions across the Mittera enterprise. This individual is essential for advising our internal and external clients on contract obligations and risks while providing general contract support and counsel on other legal matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contract law with 4-7 years of experience in handling complex contract negotiations. This position reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Prepare quality contracts that reflect an advanced knowledge of contract terms and conditions, legal requirements for compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and organizational policies and strategies.
· Negotiate, revise, and finalize all documentation required for contract closure.
· Advise and collaborate across the organization on a wide variety of legal, human resources, and risk management issues.
· Establish negotiation objectives and schedules to support and meet business requirements.
· Conduct thorough legal research to support legal inquiries.
· Oversee contract management policies and procedures.
· Assist with oversight of litigation matters and outside counsel.
· Perform other duties as needed to support the objectives of the organization and legal department.
Required Skills and Abilities
· JD from an accredited law school.
· Admitted to practice by one state bar, preferably Iowa.
· 4-7 years of relevant experience that includes in-depth knowledge of contract law and extensive experience with contracts.
· Demonstrated experience providing practical, actionable advice that balances legal risk and business impact.
· Excellent drafting, negotiating, and communication skills.
· Keen analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to multitask and work independently.
· Ability to embrace change and thrive in a fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities, multiple projects and deadline pressure.
Physical Requirements
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
· Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity and coordination.
· Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility.
