Summary:
The Associate Director of Policy will lead Prosperity Now’s policy development and advocacy efforts to advance economic equity. This position will focus on research, legislative tracking, and engaging with partners to inform and educate stakeholders about policies that impact underserved communities. The Associate Director will work closely with internal and external partners to develop evidence-based policy recommendations that align with Prosperity Now’s mission of economic mobility and justice.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy Development & Research:
· Lead the development of research-based policy recommendations that align with Prosperity Now’s mission, focusing on income building, asset building, asset preservation, and financial inclusion.
· Conduct research and draft policy briefs, reports, and white papers that highlight actionable solutions for economic equity.
· Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory changes at the federal, state, and local levels, providing internal updates on relevant policy trends and their potential impact on Prosperity Now’s work.
· Collaborate with program teams to ensure policy recommendations are rooted in on-the-ground insights from communities served by Prosperity Now.
Stakeholder Education & Engagement:
· Engage with community leaders, nonprofits, and coalitions to share Prosperity Now’s research and policy insights, fostering partnerships to advance shared goals.
· Educate policymakers and key stakeholders about Prosperity Now’s evidence-based policy recommendations, ensuring alignment with nonprofit regulations.
· Represent Prosperity Now at policy-related forums, briefings, and conferences, focusing on providing thought leadership and informing discussions about systemic economic solutions.
· Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as foundations, academic institutions, and think tanks, to strengthen Prosperity Now’s policy research and expand its reach.
Internal Collaboration & Support:
· Work closely with Communications and Development teams to align policy efforts with broader external engagement strategies, ensuring that policy insights are effectively communicated to key audiences.
· Support cross-functional projects by providing research and recommendations that inform grant proposals, public messaging, and partnership development.
· Assist in the development of public-facing communications materials, such as blog posts, op-eds, and press releases, that explain Prosperity Now’s policy positions in a nonpartisan, educational manner.
Legislative & Regulatory Tracking:
· Track relevant legislation and regulations to monitor opportunities and challenges in advancing Prosperity Now’s policy priorities, providing regular updates to senior leadership.
· Prepare reports and scorecards that assess the impact of proposed policies on racial and economic equity.
· Provide timely analysis of emerging policy issues, offering recommendations on how Prosperity Now can respond through education and advocacy within the bounds of nonprofit compliance.
Capacity Building & Technical Assistance:
· Provide technical assistance and policy education to Prosperity Now’s partners, including CDFIs, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations, helping them navigate policy landscapes and implement best practices.
· Organize policy-related webinars, trainings, and briefings to educate stakeholders about economic policies that impact underserved communities, supporting their efforts to advocate for equity.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Eight years of experience working in the field of policy development, research, or advocacy, with a focus on economic justice or financial inclusion; or master’s in a related field and six (6) years of which at least two years were at a Senior Program Manager level or equivalent.
· Bachelor’s or the equivalent years of experience
· Strong research and analytical skills, with experience producing nonpartisan policy reports and briefs.
· Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, advocacy organizations, and community leaders, to inform and educate on policy issues.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex policy ideas to varied audiences.
· Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
· Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience working on policies that support marginalized communities.
Supervisory Responsibility: One to two employees and/or consultants.

FLSA Classification: Exempt, Level 5
Salary Range: The salary for this position is $91,200 to $136,800 per year, with a midpoint of $114,000.
