Summary:
As an integral part of the Prosperity Now finance team, the Grant Accountant is responsible for the post-award administration of grant funds and related accounting duties. Working closely with the program staff, development staff, and finance team, the Grant Accountant focuses on grant budget preparation, actual vs. budget reporting, reviewing, and monitoring of grants and transactions for compliance with funder requirements, billing and collections, journal entries, and financial grant reporting. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Grant Accountant is responsible for maintaining relevant financial, accounting, and grant support processes to meet the needs of the organization and its donors. The role will also assist in the month-end closing process and the creation of monthly project/fund financial reports as directed by the Controller.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for grant management and timely submission of required grant reports.
- Support in pre-award activities including reading proposal guidelines; preparing budgets, work with the Program team in reviewing budget narratives and monitoring regulatory compliance requirements.
- Perform in post-award activities including account creation in ERP system, recording drawdowns, recording award revenues, expenses, payables, and receivables.
- Administer salary and benefits allocations, effort reporting, invoice preparation, assist in payment processing, assist in cost transfers, grant projections, and account closing.
- Perform quality control reviews of data entered into the financial system in order to ensure compliance and data integrity of the financial system.
- Reconcile accounts receivables, prepaids, unearned and payables by award number based on expenses incurred to the GL and submit the invoice to the donor. Record adjusting transaction entries into the financial system.
- Process labor distribution changes, reconciliations, and grant closeout functions.
- Track and monitor match fund requirements and progress on a monthly basis.
- Align and reconcile grant revenue data between the ERP and CRM systems.
- Prepare accurate financial reports to funders as required.
- Prepare monthly financial reports on projects for program managers, informing them of the financial position of the project and award balances.
- Provide training for Prosperity Now staff in relation to donor requirements, financial reports and deliverables, and pre-and-post award financial tasks. Conduct monitoring and internal audits to ensure compliance.
- Ensure adherence to financial requirements specified by funders, while also maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and financial standards throughout the lifecycle of the grant.
- Assist Controller with year-end reports and work papers to support annual and grant audits.
- Assist Controller in staying abreast of the changes and/or updates to the U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and their applicability to grant management. Additionally maintain tax-exempt status demands by adhering to specific regulations set by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Qualifications:
- Six years of relevant experience; or a master’s and four (4) years of which two years were at a manager level or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s Degree in in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- Minimum three years of grant accounting experience
- Detailed knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Thorough understanding of all accounting functional areas including AP, AR, Fixed Assets and GL functions.
- Experience with integrated accounting computer systems, software, and applications.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, Macros); Intacct experience required.
- Strong, verbal, written, analytical and organizational skills.
- High level of ethics, integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and trustworthiness.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals and teams.
- Ability to translate financial concepts to individuals at all levels in the organization including non-finance employees.

Salary Grade: The salary for this position is $72,000 to $108,000 per year, with a midpoint of $90,000.
