Position Summary
The Radiation Therapist uses ionizing radiation producing equipment to administer accurate radiation therapy treatments according to the radiation oncologist’s prescription and plan. They will assist in the simulation of patients, enter and maintain information in the clinic’s information managements system and perform warm-up and quality assurance procedures on the treatment unit. The Radiation Therapist provides compassionate patient care and education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Delivers accurate radiation therapy treatments utilizing a linear accelerator; aids in patient simulation
- Accurately set treatment parameters
- Record proper documentation of all treatments and procedures.
- Performs daily QA and warmup procedures.
- Scheduled daily treatments and other appointments.
- Monitor’s patient’s well being over treatment and provides patient education when needed.
- Observe patients for evidence of complications and report to physician as appropriate.
- Coordinates patient’s daily radiation therapy appointments and CT Scans
- Handle daily and weekly filming for treatment purposes and verification.
- Maintains clean and organized work environment.
- Responsible for professional development and continuing education.
Educational Requirements
- Required: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) is preferred
Experience
- One (1) to two (2) years’ experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- ARRT Registered- (T) Radiation Therapy
- IEMA Licensed
- BLS for the Healthcare Provider
Additional Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the following general knowledge
- Proficiency in using clinical information systems, Mosaiq preferred
- Basic knowledge of radiation therapy equipment and procedures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic knowledge of MS Office products and other relevant computer programs
- Familiar with medical terminology
- Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.
