Job Summary:
The Communications and Outreach Director (COD) reports to the CEO in a critical role responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy to advance the mission of Nation’s Finest. The COD will oversee agency-wide outreach efforts to identify and communicate with homeless and at-risk veterans who may be eligible for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program (“SSVF”). The COD will also oversee Communications and Outreach staff to create and deploy compelling content across multiple platforms to advance the reputation of Nation’s Finest, attract donors, manage media relations, and streamline the fundraising efforts of the organization. The successful candidate is a creative storyteller, a skilled writer, and a proactive communicator with a strong understanding of Veteran advocacy and non-profit communications.
Job Duties:
- Develop and implement the strategic plan for communications and outreach that aligns with the mission, goals, and core values of Nation’s Finest. Identify key messages and target audiences to enhance visibility and influence.
- Work closely with the Leadership Team, SSVF Director, and Site Directors to develop and implement a coordinated, agency-wide client outreach plan and calendar.
- Act as the liaison for internal and external communications with site communities. Provide regular status reports and project plans to community partners, as directed by the CEO.
- Deliver relevant corporate messages and materials to various site communities through customized brochures and toolkits for use in client outreach efforts.
- Engage stakeholders such as eligible Veterans and donors by clearly communicating the mission and impact of Nation’s Finest
- Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy and work collaboratively with various internal and external partners to implement and continuously improve fundraising efforts.
- Act as the point of contact for media outlets to convey relevant information that promotes positive coverage of agency Veteran services and advocacy efforts.
- Oversee organization communication materials, providing quality control and ensuring all agency materials have consistent and positive messaging and branding.
- Oversee digital presence, including website content, social media channels, and email campaigns. Develop strategies to grow engagement and followers across digital platforms.
- Utilize analytics tools to monitor the effectiveness of digital campaigns and make data-driven adjustments to optimize performance.
- Monitor online dialogue and feedback, develop, and track key communication and client enrollment metrics, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Job Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with data and word processing programs.
- Familiar with optimizing content for varying main-stream social media platforms.
- Proven experience in producing digital content, including email campaigns, social media graphics, and videos.
- Strong graphic design skills and proficiency with design software such as Canva.
- Comfortable using content management systems for websites.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively to develop and execute effective communication plans.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of audiences ranging from low-income clients to potential donors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to perform in a work environment with changing communications needs.
- Reliably detail oriented.
- Able to maintain a cooperative working relationship with clients and staff.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, and three to five years of work experience in these fields or similar combination of education and professional work experience.
Experience in the nonprofit sector is desirable but not required.
Military experience is desirable but not required.
Offering:
$75,000 - $90,000 per year to start commensurate with experience.
