JOB SUMMARY: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will support medical providers in delivering care for patients enrolled in pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services and in delivering primary care and HIV specialty care for patients living with HIV. The CMA is supervised by the Nurse Manager and ultimately the Director of Clinical Care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support physicians, nurse practitioners (NP) and physician assistants (PA) in the care of patients receiving PrEP services and in the care of patients living with HIV.
- Escort patients to exam rooms
- Perform vital signs
- Return phone calls within 24 hours
- Conduct patient interviews including history, complaints, and current medications
- Prepare patients for examinations, and assist the physician, NP or PA during examinations
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens (including phlebotomy) or perform basic laboratory tests
- Prepare referrals as ordered
- Document in the electronic medical record
- Schedule patients for appointments with clinical provider or for laboratory specimen collection
- Provide treatments, administer medications and vaccines as directed
- Authorize medication refills as directed
- Perform administrative duties related to patient care as directed
- Abide by all state and agency policies regarding confidentiality of patient information
- Responsible for general clinic housekeeping and disinfection of exam rooms and other treatment areas as necessary
- Participate in quality improvement activities as indicated
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Certified as a Medical Assistant, preference for strong phlebotomy skills
- Electronic Medical Record system knowledge preferred
- Possess excellent communication skills (writing, spelling, listening and speaking)
- Cooperates as a team member, ability to multi-task, as well as good time management techniques
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet database and presentation software
- Abides by all policies and procedures concerning personnel including conflict of interest policy
Minimum Qualifications
Certified Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant with Associate Degree or higher in the medical field with at least 2-3 years of experience in clinical setting.
Experience
At least 2-3 years of experience in clinical setting.
License/Licensure
Certified as a Medical Assistant
