About the Organization:
African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) is a culturally rooted, community-founded organization led by visionary Black women and a community Board of Directors. ACHD works towards an informed African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community engaged in the holistic development of families, communities, and the environment. ACHD focuses on equitable and culturally relevant health, legal, and educational services; housing stability and economic growth; and land-use, real estate, and property development. ACHD staff speak 13 languages, and over 80% identify as Black or People of Color.
Job Summary:
The Community Outreach Coordinator will work closely with the Learning Experience Supervisors to design and implement recruitment and communication strategies for ACHD’s culturally relevant educational programs. The ideal Community Outreach Coordinator is an educator with experience working with the African Diaspora community and is thus able to effectively liaise between our school partners and families. The Community Outreach Coordinator is also the Education department’s internal liaison, particularly with our Social Services department; they are tasked with streamlining communication and ensuring that families enrolled in educational programs can receive case management and other support services as necessary. Furthermore, like the Community Liaisons they supervise, the Community Outreach Coordinator will represent ACHD at community events and meetings with collaborating entities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Work closely with Learning Experience Supervisors and other key staff members to develop timelines and work plans to implement the outreach components of department projects
· Coordinate recruitment and communication strategies for programs with the Community Engagement Manager.
· Plan, organize, and directs community outreach events
· Maintain an event calendar with outreach events, coordinating with Learning Experience Supervisor to ensure there are no conflicts with programming
· Represent ACHD at various functions
· Supervise Community Liaisons day-to-day functions
· Facilitate family workshops along with Community Liaisons
· Manage and maintain inventory of outreach materials, collaborating with Communications Manager to design and amend as needs arise
Liaise with other ACHD departments, including Social Services and Communications

Required Qualifications:
· 3-5 years’ experience as a community leader or organizer
· 3-5 years' experience as a supervisor or coordinator
· Comfortable in various multicultural settings
· Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
· Ability to facilitate training and supervise staff
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Experience applying classroom and behavior management techniques
· Competence in creating safe, culturally relevant, anti-racist spaces
· Experience working respectfully, culturally, and linguistically with diverse communities
· Regular weekday evening availability and occasional weekend field trip availability
· Valid WA driver’s license
· National background check and verification of COVID vaccination
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in communications, social work, business/non-profit management
· Fluency in an African language, especially Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, or Swahili
· Experience with educational programs or school systems
· Love for the outdoors/STEAM
· Proficiency with software tools such as Microsoft Office and Canva or eagerness to learn more about technology
