Human Resources Administrator / Generalist

Marra Forni is a family-owned business and by extension, the Marra Forni team operates as a collaborative family, made up of diverse, talented, and unique skilled individuals. Marra Forni is the fastest growing brick oven manufacturer of handcrafted brick ovens for commercial and residential use. Marra Forni is seeking an HR Specialist to provide support for the entire organization.

Reporting dually to the CEO and the Director of Finance, the Human Resource Specialist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay and processing payroll, liaising with the Company’s employee benefits broker, and enforcing company policies and practices. With the organization being small in size, the Human Resources department is comprised only of the HR Specialist. 


The HR Specialist will be charged with executing the responsibilities independently and with the best use of judgment, based on their knowledge and experience. We are looking for a team member who will work strategically along side the CEO and the Director of Finance to assist with scaling the growth of the organization through planning and implementing short and long term execution plans.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May assist with constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Duties/Responsibilities:


Recruitment/Onboarding (45% of time allocation)

  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Establishes a recruitment strategy per position to target the most efficient markets to yield positive results to staff for open positions
  • Leads employee onboarding process through new hire orientation and planning any required trainings

HR Transactional Tasks (20% of time allocation)

  • Documenting the offboarding process through sending standard notices to applicable team members
  • Administering COBRA and sending separation notices as applicable and offboarding processes.
  • Implements employee recognition programs.
  • Files documents into appropriate employee files.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; 
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.

Employee Relations Matters (25% of time allocation)

  • Managing disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.

Compliance Related (10% of time allocation)

  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
  • Conducts audits of payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommends corrective action.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least 5 years of human resource management experience required.
  • SHRM-CP required.
  • Proficiency with Paylocity required. 
  • Bilingual in Spanish required.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 
  • Must be willing to travel between the Beltsville, MD location and the Elkridge, MD location 
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

Compensation:

$65K - $75K (DOE) per year.
