Controller
Description

 

General Purpose:

The Controller is tasked with overseeing all financial aspects of the business with a strong focus on revenue cycle management and collections. The business manager creates and maintains the agency budget and advises senior management or ownership of any deviations in key performance indicators compared to budget. The business manager will also oversee the functions of accounts payable and receivable as well as manage agency accounting functions.

Essential Functions:

· Maintain strong understanding of payor requirements and authorization processes.

· Ensure compliance with all payor requirements and contractual obligations.

· Maintain strong relationships with contracted payors and periodically renegotiate contracted rates with all payors at the direction of the administrator.

· Coordinate any required communication with other agencies as necessary.

· Ensure prior authorization is in place for all provided services.

· Coordinates the collection of all outstanding orders from allowable providers in preparation for billing.

· Ensures timely filing of all claims for all payors.

· Advise on payor eligibility for complex payment situations.

· Manage accounts receivable for all payors and patients within established KPI expectations.

· Correct and rebill claims after receipt of insurance denials.

· Monitor claims for possible write off. Advise administrator on claims in danger of write off.

· Monitor and respond to all payor ADR requests.

· Responds to inquiries from patients, payors and offices in a timely manner.

· Utilize company accounting software to record all revenue and expenses company wide.

· Advise director level personnel on agency financial performance and provide guidance for hitting agency profitability expectations.

· Oversee all accounts payable and receivable activity agency wide.

· Prepare monthly reporting and advise leadership team of monthly and quarterly financial statements.

· At the direction of governing body, prepare yearly statements and liaise with contracted CPAs for tax planning and execution.

· Coordinate and assist with Human Resources on any payroll related functions as necessary.

· Coordinate with HR on annual wage increases and overall compensation levels.

· Prepare or oversee agency annual cost reporting.

· Prepare, update, and manage annual agency budget.

· Prepare periodic reporting for governing body regarding agency performance to budgetary expectations.

· Analyze agency activities and recommend structural changes to achieve agency profitability goals.

· Work with administrator and governing body to set annual strategic plan and agency goals.

· Execute treasury related functions of the business at the direction of the governing body.

· Conduct reconciliation activities each month at the direction of the governing body.

· Prepare cash and cash flow reports for the governing body.

· Monitor assigned cash accounts and ensure proper reserves are in place for agency needs.

· Periodically present on agency financial health metrics at the direction of the governing body.

· Prioritizes workload to complete tasks within required timeframe.

· Assume accountability for multiple staff members and ensure individuals and the team meets their performance metric goals.

· Monitor quality of teamwork and develop action plans for continuous quality improvement.

· Ensure staff is properly scheduled and ensure individuals and team adheres to the schedule.

· Investigate trends, surfaces issues, identify root problems and collaboratively work with the team/individuals to resolve issues.

· Completes other assignments as requested and assigned.

· May have access to personal health information ("PHI") necessary to fulfill the above duties and responsibilities. Access to use and ability to disclose PHI is further defined by each organization/department.

Minimum Requirements and Experience Requirements:

· Associate Degree in Accounting or equivalent years experience and training.· Three (3) years collections and billing experience in a home health setting.

· Strong background of problem solving regarding billing and payables issues.· Detail oriented with strong organization, analytical and problem-solving skills.· Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.· Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software.· Ability to read and interpret financial reports.· Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with multiple tasks, changing priorities, short deadlines and heavy workload.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

· Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

· Ability to work flexible schedule and/or evening hours as needed.

· Ability to sit in front of CPU for long periods of time.

· Physical activity is sedentary and may require occasional lifting or carrying up to 10 lbs.
