Job Purpose

Reporting to the IT Manager, the Network Engineer will contribute and assist in the design of current and future infrastructure initiatives. They will play a key role in designing, deploying, and troubleshooting existing and future network solutions. This role is responsible for actively contributing and implementing current best practices as well as working to implement the best available solutions to help scale Longroad Energy’s network for the future. This is a remote role, however, must be willing to travel to Phoenix and other sites frequently.

This engineer will also develop efficient strategies and tactics to deploy solutions to assist with network growth and address needs before they arise. They will be a key participant in various projects throughout the country and have a passion to work with a diverse and cohesive team that shares in success, rewards excellence, and takes pride in being part of making a positive change to the future of our planet.


Responsibilities

  • Design, implementation, support, and maintenance of network systems including WAN, LAN, WLAN, and point-to-point technologies.
  • Install, administrate, and maintain network equipment, specifically Meraki firewalls, switches, wireless access points, Cisco Catalyst switches, and Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Configure and maintain Global Protect for secure remote access, managing site-to-site VPNs, ensuring robust firewall security, and overseeing the backup and restoration of network configurations, along with comprehensive documentation of these processes.
  • Administer and maintain virtual network appliances and firewall rules in AWS, with a focus on network security and efficiency.
  • Configure and maintain IP services such as DHCP and DNS.
  • Ensure accurate inventory and effective utilization for asset management of network equipment.
  • Mange Access Control Lists (ACLs) and firewall rules to safeguard network security and compliance.
  • Participate in the documentation of IT services, particularly focused on creating and maintaining network diagrams, inventories, and vendor contact information.
  • Partner with the IT Manager and other members of the department to develop and maintain documentation of the evolving environment for IT and security focused audits.
  • Monitor network resources to ensure optimal availability and capacity planning.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of disaster recovery strategies to ensure network resilience and data protection.
  • Maintain technical expertise in networking technologies through continuous education, attending seminars, trade shows, and conferences.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience supporting and implementing network routers/switches/firewalls.
  • 4 years of supporting LAN technologies; DNS, DHCP, VLAN, SIP, QoS, spanning-tree, bandwidth profile policies, switch stacking, link aggregation, etc.
  • 4 years of experience with WAN technologies/routing protocols; OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, RIP, VoIP, NAT, etc.
  • Experience being on an on-call rotation for after-hours break/fix support.
  • Experience with IT security standards and protocols.
  • Expert understanding of the interrelation of all layers of the OSI model.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical Tier 2 and 3 escalation issues and identify solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Would also include up to 15% travel

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (CCNP, PCNSE) are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Palo Alto and Cisco ASA firewalls with the ability to support and deploy new solutions.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking technologies (AWS VPC, Subnet, Security Groups, NACL, etc).
  • Experience working with SIEM security solutions (Splunk, etc).
